And another attempt looms, to buy a decent Poncho after trying and failing in the previous two likely towns.

Anyone know where an Altos or similar might be bought in Leon, please?

Decathlon.

I wasn't impressed by my own Altus poncho. It was like a sweatsuit. Decathlon's MT900 poncho at least has pit zips and adjustable cuffs, which the Altus doesn't have.

I went to 3 Decathlons in Madrid looking for that poncho for a friend and they didn't offer it in the poncho section. I wonder if it was in the women's section or only available in the UK?

The smaller Decathlon "City" stores don't have nearly as many products as the larger stores, so that could have been the issue. You can use the Decathlon website to check the availability of a product at a particular store. It's also useful to take a screenshot of the product to show the employees what you are looking for.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Just up the street from the albergue convent...

Thanks for the help. I went to the excellent Armerio Castro shop in the centre. They are clearly knowledgeable and have anything you need, hiking-related. I'm now the proud owner of a blue XL Altro H30. The only problem now is the damned weather forecast - it's sun for the next 10 days so can't test it out (but I can carry it) ....

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
