I just added some credit to my Skype account for calls back to my family while on the Chemin du Puy. Skype just offered me a one month (no, actually 27 days) free "Unlimited World" subscription which will allow me to converse without limit to land lines and mobiles in the US and Canada and land lines in France (Spain as well if you are going all the way to Santiago de Compostela). Of course, WiFi connection is required for Skype. Most beneficial if you are from the US or Canada.

I will cancel my subscription when I get back - my trip will last less than 27 days. Cost is about $14./month US for a subscription after the trial ends.

I admit I haven't used Skype from this part of France before. And I know WiFi connections aren't available everywhere on the Le Puy route.

Hope this might be helpful to others. BTW, I will conduct my phone conversations in private and I hope others will do so too.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Well, if you have skype and in a wifi area, isn't it free anyway?

I believe it's only free if you skype another skype subscriber - and the hassle of this is the recipient has to be "on" when you call. It's not free if you call a land line or a mobile number.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
