1 Apr 25 Camino Norte and Primitivo
Hello, fellow pilgrims!
I’m an Australian planning an exciting adventure on the Camino this spring. My plan is to fly to Spain and begin the Camino del Norte on April 1, eventually switching to the Primitivo. I’ve read that this time of year can bring a bit of wet and windy weather, but it sounds like a beautiful and doable route, with so much to offer in terms of scenery and experience. If anyone has walked this path around the same time, I’d love to hear your thoughts, tips, or any must-see spots along the way. I’m eager to learn from your experiences and make the most of this journey!

Buen Camino to everyone preparing for their walk!

Buen Camino to everyone preparing for their walk!
I walked the Norte and Primitivo starting April 18, 2023 and it was glorious, only a few rainy days (but bitterly cold the week before I started, glad to have timed it so well). Spring was beautiful with every kind of wildflower, trees slowly leafing in, fruit trees in full bloom, and the sea often on your right shoulder for much of the Norte. As the weeks progressed, I also enjoyed seeing the tender seedlings in sprouting in precise wavy rows in the farmlands I passed. Also many animals along the ways, loved the goats!

Wake early, leave at dawn to catch the morning light, but don't start walking in the dark, you'll not want to miss one view. Don't miss El Capricho (Caprice de Gaudi) in Comillas, I was blown away (and honestly I'm not a Gaudi fan). The fish soup on the Norte was my favorite and became my go-to meal, it varies from town to town but always comforting after a long walk. I'm longing to go back!

Buen Camino! I know you will enjoy every minute!

Thank you for sharing your experience—it sounds magical! Your vivid descriptions of spring blooms, wildflowers, and the sea have me even more excited. I think I’ll adjust my timing to start a bit later in April... El Capricho is now on my list, and I can’t wait to try the fish soup along the way! Thanks again for the advice and encouragement—Buen Camino!

The weather is always going to be your unknown factor, and April can be tricky, but a little later might be better, you never know. Easter is April 20, so also take that into account as you plan your start. If you have time, consider continuing to Finisterre Land even Muxia).

Happy to provide more details - likely others will way in, but dm me if you've got more questions. I think there are a minimum number of posts new members have to make before they can dm. One of my favorite pictures, first week walking.IMG_9225.webp
