Necessary to book ahead for July?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
If I were you I would book my accommodation in advance.

As regards your second post, I think the Camino from Porto to SdC is around 260km. Are you asking for a list of hotels and albergues for all of this? Have you already carried out any research?

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Also accommodation for Portugese Central route please in hostels and albergues
I can't believe I still have this list. It's what I planned for what would have been my 4th Camino - Porto to SdC Coastal Route. Even though my dates are in Sept 2022, this may give you and idea.

Thanks for your advice I think I'll book ahead.Booking.com is great as I can confirm immediately but I do like staying in the pilgrim accommodation for the best camino experience. I have found a great list on
stingynomads.com/camino-portugese-stages/placestostay
Do you have any recommendations for Porto albergues please?

You are setting off in August. This is the month that most Europeans take their vacation days, and is prime time for all tourism venues. I would expect that the last 100 km from Tui to Santiago will be very busy indeed when you get there. I don't know what the CP will look like before Tui. The Frances in July/August is relatively quiet because of the excessive summer heat- except for the last 100 km where it is crazy busy.

Thanks for the tip. I walked Frances last year in August and it was heat wave HOT! I booked each night in advance but found it restrictive but I felt comfortable knowing I had a bed each night. I will book ahead for Portugese Central. Have you walked the Coastal and if so which do you think is the better one? I do like a bit of company as I am walking on my own.

Sorry, I can't offer any experience here. I'm walking from Lisbon this fall, but until then, I simply don't know!
