Larrabetzu Albergue

This is rather unexpected, as it was run by a non-profit. They also run 4 other albergues on the Norte. I sent them a whatsapp last week but have not heard back as of now.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
I managed to get in contact with the association and they confirmed that it is closed, and Lezama too. That leaves only Markina and Pobeña for the association.
That's terrible. There was already a dearth of albergues between Irun and Bilbao - especially low cost ones.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Yes, it's a shame really. I was there this May and the host was wonderful. The Norte - between Irun and Bilbao - has some serious issues i think.

Just walked that stretch. It was busy (I think also because the holiday weekend foot Spain) en a problem with beds. Especially after Markina, because Gernika albergue is closed, the albergue before Gernika was closed for holiday/winter. So the one after Gernika, putted extra tents in the garden to provide extra beds.
I took the bus/metro to Bilbao/Portugalette and walked to Pobeña.

Michael - I just checked in with the ayuntamiento in Lezama and they indicated that the albergue there is set to reopen in June, as is typical. Maybe it's under new management now? Have you heard anything more about this? I'm trying to follow up with HOSVOBI.

Would be nice if this one, at least, stayed open.

Actually, I take it back--HOSVOBI just confirmed not only that Lezama will be open (June-September), but Larrabetzu as well! The latter will be operating Holy Week - mid-October.
