Künig or Invierno?

Except the Francés
tomorrow I expect to arrive in Ponferrada from the Olvidado.

I then have two options: either walk the Invierno again, or try the Via Künig, going through Lugo (capital) for the first time. I loved the Invierno, but it might be good to try a different route.

Any opinions, especially from people who have walked the Künig, gratefully received. Preferably by Thursday at dawn.

PS. I will not be walking the Francés this year.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Alan, I plotted the Kunig when we were hoping that we could get Richard Durrant and his guitars to Santiago. Covid intervened. The route had logic and I’d mapped the sort of minor roads that a cyclist with a rather valuable trailer could take. It struck me at the time that the route made more sense as a “Ruta de Invierno” than the current designate. Lugo looked like the sort of place a pilgrim could get some serious R&R before hacking the jungles of the Verde to Sobrado and another warm welcome. Ponferrada to Ourense always strikes as a step to far in not quite the right direction.

If you take the Kunig I’ll follow with interest

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I’m guessing you know that Álvaro recently walked the Kunig. He went from the Olvidado at Cabañas Raras to Ruitelan. And then to Lugo in 4 days. I haven’t watched them all, but on one I saw a water crossing that would have put the fear of God in me! They were lost, and I don’t think he uses GPS.

Looking forward to your daily reports no matter which way you go!

I sent Álvaro Lazaga a whatsapp asking which he would recommend, and got the reply "Künig sin duda". When I challenged him about the knee deep puddles on his video he admitted "inmensos charrrrrrrcos".

Ender (who is clearly keen I finish the Olvidado and not skive off at Ponferrada) says I can join the Invierno at Puente de Domingo Flórez from Villafranca del Bierzo. So decision deferred for a couple of days.

At the beginning of this year, I took a term off (plus 3 weeks of school holiday) with the intention of walking a number of small, connecting routes in Spain. It's very stressful living in Burma...
