When does a pilgrim become a veteran?
Easy on the forum you become a veteran after posting 160 times, with no caminos walked.

But when does a pilgrim become a camino veteran and a camino expert?
After walking Camino Frances once?
After walking various caminos in all seasons?
After walking various caminos in different countries and continents?

just curious...

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The accepted meaning of 'veteran' is someone who has long service in office, or of many sport competitions etc.

The accepted meaning of 'expert' is a person with a high degree of skill in or knowledge of a certain subject.

You don't have to be a Camino 'veteran' to be a Camino 'expert'.

Some people who have not walked a Camino at all know more about its history, legends, folk-lore, art and architecture than some who have done numerous walks on different routes.

I think most people who have walked 6 weeks on the Camino could be considered Veterans.
They probably are experts also on walking the Camino, even though they may not be experts on its history, etc.
That is not to say they don't all have a different opinion of the "best" way to do the Camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I am not sure I would want to be thought an 'expert' after hearing the following definition:-
An 'ex' is 'a has been' and a 'spurt' is 'a drip under pressure'

Experience of being on the Camino and reaching Santiago, wisdom still to listen to advice and to offer it when asked are maybe signs of a veteran. However there are folk who have to keep making short Caminos or sections and are veterans before they reach Santiago......

Interesting question.
