Ive done that before on a trek when my feet swelled up. I also always take a thin pair of socks than I’d usually prefer just to give my feet heaps of room while swelling lasts. I try drink lots of water. Someone told me that helps don’t know why.

Must have. No problems, just used my passport to scrape off the cobwebs and dust layers. Made for the communal shower in the morning. Took a look at 5 or 6 naked women in there all showering together and suddenly I no longer needed a shower. 🤣

Not true. So long as you are always adding fresh clean water and nothing else, you don't need to do any intensive cleaning while you are on the trail.
I cleaned mine zero times last year during my 40+ days on the Camino.
