LIVE from the Camino Invierno June 2024

Congratulations!
And thank you so much for the updates, they're super helpful! I'm currently enjoying a glass of wine by the river in O Barco planning out tomorrow's walk. Absolutely loving the Invierno so far
Thank you and great that you’re enjoying it! If you’re only going to A Rua tomorrow, consider the alternate route via the waterfall on the other side of the river.

Congrats Nick & Wendy, on another safe arrival in SdC. Your boundless enthusiasm, positivity & willingness to share your experiences (I agree with @billC; not always easy at a long days end) serves as an inspiration to us all.

There's a saying I'm quite fond of;
'Better to wear out than rust out'
...you two epitomise that!

Best wishes for all your upcoming plans including working at the Olympics. Sounds interesting; pity it's not walking related (?!) so we could look forward to posts on that!
Sempre avanti

Thank you on all fronts!

Well I could have been assigned to cover the 50km race walk! But luckily for me, I got basketball instead…

I enjoyed following your walk on the Invierno, Nick, as I do every time you start a new "Live on the Camino" thread.
Your gorgeous final picture of the cathedral in Santiago with its intense blue sky is the perfect ending for you and Wendy.
Thanks for bringing us along!

Quick update on accommodation in Rodeiro for anyone coming through soon - Albergue Carpintieras is indeed closed until 15th, as is the restaurant. However, Hostal Carpintieras is open (same location, but the entrance is round the corner). Some other peregrinas and I were able to book a triple room for €60, and I know others did similar.

If that didn't work out, the proprietor at Hotel Vilaseco said he'd be happy to pick us up in Rodeiro at the end of the day, and drop us back the following morning

Hoping to stay there in September. Are linens provided?

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will also look forward to listening to the podcast I'll be walking this route next spring and your info is invaluable!

Hi Nick, I will be walking the Invierno in late September, so will be listening closely to the tips, etc. in your podcasts. Thanks for posting the link here. I'll be walking as far as Monteforte, then heading over to A Coruna before walking the Ingles from Ferrol to Santiago.

Buen camino! Is that your plan because you don't want to re-walk the last part of the Invierno after it joins the Sanabrés? If you could squeeze a couple more days out of the Invierno, from Monforte to Chantada, some of the best parts of the Invierno are in that stretch.

Fail to prepare? reduce your risk by buying this book full of practical info.
2nd ed.
Nick, my plans are all set. I loved the Sanabres, but since Monteforte is a train hub, decided to end there and head up to A Coruna. I knew I was giving up several days on the Invierno, but didn't want to end twice in Santiago as I was there twice on my spring camino. Also prefer to be away from home only 3+ish weeks and have added in a few vacay days to the Ingles, a new camino for me.
In addition, just last night on your Invierno thread I was reading, @jpflavin, who I have met three times said "this". He is tall, has long legs and walks the less traveled Caminos. It confirmed to me that I am don't mind passing up that next day...
"I found this to be the most challenging day. Nice walk up in the hills along the river. Then steep decline to cross the river followed by a steep 7 km's back uphill to Chantada."
I will listen to your podcasts later this morning, btw.

@jungleboy , I just finished listening to your two fantastic podcasts on the Invierno with Wendy. They have neen helpful and will probably take your advice with getting to the Orellan mirador from the albergue in Villavieja. It is one of the four variants Laurie suggested in her new thread from a few days ago. Your other tips are interesting and I plan to head to the south side of the Sil to avoid the industry on the north. We will be staying two nights in Monteforte, so am counting on what it has to offer will be worth it.
I need to watch your other podcasts.
