Quick update on accommodation in Rodeiro for anyone coming through soon - Albergue Carpintieras is indeed closed until 15th, as is the restaurant. However, Hostal Carpintieras is open (same location, but the entrance is round the corner). Some other peregrinas and I were able to book a triple room for €60, and I know others did similar.

If that didn't work out, the proprietor at Hotel Vilaseco said he'd be happy to pick us up in Rodeiro at the end of the day, and drop us back the following morning

I stayed there last night. There were only two of us, and the hospitalera was friendly and helpful. She cooked a good communal dinner. You should have no problem getting a bed there - reservations are not accepted and hospitaleros/as are volunteers.

The sign says that they open at 4 pm. I arrived around 2 pm, and no one was there. I went for lunch, and when I returned a little past 3 I rang the bell and was let in.

Hi Nick, I will be walking the Invierno in late September, so will be listening closely to the tips, etc. in your podcasts.Thanks for posting the link here. I'll be walking as far as Monteforte, then heading over to A Coruna before walking the Ingles from Ferrol to Santiago.

Buen camino! Is that your plan because you don't want to re-walk the last part of the Invierno after it joins the Sanabrés? If you could squeeze a couple more days out of the Invierno, from Monforte to Chantada, some of the best parts of the Invierno are in that stretch.

Nick, my plans are all set. I loved the Sanabres, but since Monteforte is a train hub, decided to end there and head up to A Coruna. I knew I was giving up several days on the Invierno, but didn't want to end twice in Santiago as I was there twice on my spring camino. Also prefer to be away from home only 3+ish weeks and have added in a few vacay days to the Ingles, a new camino for me.
In addition, just last night on your Invierno thread I was reading, @jpflavin, who I have met three times said "this". He is tall, has long legs and walks the less traveled Caminos. It confirmed to me that I am don't mind passing up that next day...
"I found this to be the most challenging day. Nice walk up in the hills along the river. Then steep decline to cross the river followed by a steep 7 km's back uphill to Chantada."

@jungleboy , I just finished listening to your two fantastic podcasts on the Invierno with Wendy. They have neen helpful and will probably take your advice with getting to the Orellan mirador from the albergue in Villavieja. It is one of the four variants Laurie suggested in her new thread from a few days ago. Your other tips are interesting and I plan to head to the south side of the Sil to avoid the industry on the north. We will be staying two nights in Monteforte, so am counting on what it has to offer will be worth it.
I need to watch your other podcasts.
