Fellow pilgrims, salutations from the World :)

My name is Diogo, and I’m a 20 years old Youngman who has passion for nature and arts.

I’ve been introduced to the Caminho for the first time, by my grandfather (that has already passed out) some years ago which was a pilgrim that always had the dream of doing the Caminho (either the Portuguese or the French).

Unfortunately, as I’ve said before, he passed way in the mid-year of 2005. Two years ago, my best friend started to talk about hiking and doing the Caminho. Since I was a little bit “green horn” in these matters, I mostly encouraged him to do it.

It was his final review from the walk, and actually some events in my life that made me decide to do the Caminho in 2013. That and a promise. A promise for my grandfather.

So this year, I and my best friend will do the Caminho Português starting from Porto at the 3rd of May.

Bon Camiño

P.S: I live in a small town near where the route that goes from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela passes. The village it’s called Castanheira do Ribatejo, near Vila Franca de Xira (which is considered usually the first stop). If any of you intend to do the Lisbon to SdC trail, message me so I can give you a little bit of support.

Thank you very much Lovingkindness. Yesterday, when I was doing a 18km training, I met a french peregrino. It was very good to talk with that man. I gaved him some water and some directions.

There was a day in 2008 when I was walking in France towards Cahors when it became really hot, and the walk was more remote, longer and more waterless than I was expecting. I ran out of water and a French couple I had met the night before knew I had no water left. They stopped and talked to some locals, who gave them some cold fresh water. In the heat, they then ran after me to share the cold water. It was an act of kindness that I won't forget. Being given cold water on a hot day is one of those 'simple' things on the Camino that you treasure.
