Injury to foot

Time of past OR future Camino
First one.
I'm an old guy, age 76. In preparing for my camino I injured my right foot. I believe it is a strain, but have little time to heal since I start from stage 13 in Burgos on March 4, or only a couple weeks from now. First of all, do I get my blank creditionals at the alberque in Burgos. And, until I know I can carry my 12-15 lb backpack, can I have it delivered ahead 12 miles or so to the next alberque until I know my foot can take the pounding carrying that additional weight? Will that delivery service be in operation that early in March? I will walk this first stage, and then carry my backpack from then on...if the foot cooperates. Finally....what is the typical charge?

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Didymus,

Sorry to learn of your injury; hope all will be fine soon.
In Burgos you can get your Credencial/Pilgrim passport at the municipal Albergue Casa del Cuba. They can also help you arrange baggage transport. See more re the albergue at http://www.gronze.com/castilla-y-leon/burgos/burgos/albergue-peregrinos-casa-del-cubo-y-lerma

Since it is a long slog from Burgos to Hornillos on your first day.
You might consider stopping in Tardajos at La Fabrica which is a fine private albergue/hostal spot. See http://www.alberguelafabrica.com/

Buen camino!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Some-one suggested that Vick's Vapour Rub was good for strains. Meant for chest rub for coughs but it actually does seem to work on strains - worth a try and a small enough pot to carry with you if it does.
I think it is the slight massaging and warmth that makes it effective.

You might look into K T tape, which is being used a lot now, even by professional athetes. I had a slight knee mishap before I left for CF and was treated with this by a local chiropractor who specialises in sports injuries. Within four days, I was good to go and haven't had even a twinge since. Wish you a speedy healing and Buen Camino.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Re baggage transport, I used Correos (the post office) for the latter stages of the Frances after I injured my back. Cheaper than Jacotrans, 5 euro, and the website was very easy to use. Jacotrans got a bit difficult to use late in the year and the price kept going up, 10 euro on the last leg I used them on, and after that a straight refusal to carry my pack further. Next time I will use Correos all the time if I need my pack carried.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for all your responses. My foot has miraculously healed. But, my practice 12 mile walks with a 12-15 lb backpack have resulted in blisters on one foot. And I wore socks that assure you this will not happen. Also, all but one time rubbed my feet with vasoline. Anyway...I head to Burgos tomorrow, and expect the good Lord to be with me on my journey. Again, thank you for your concern. I'm fine now, and look forward with a healthy dose of anxiety to what lies ahead. Peace...and God Bless! Gods will be done!

Giving credibility to any advertising claim is hazardous!! No sock can guarantee no friction and no blisters. Friction is eliminated by proper footwear fit, lubricant, and/or liner socks. A slogan on a label does none of these things. ;)

Things like moisturizers, moisture (cotton is particularly bad for retaining moisture), sock seams, foot treatments that create frictions spots (corners of moleskin come to mind; round all corners), duct tape curls, etc. all add the potential for a blister. Find the footcare that works for you. Buen camino.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
