Exploring the mountain Saiatz trail/Camino Vasco
It is a Basque tradition to climb mountain peaks on the last day of the year and the first day of the year. Today I climbed Aizkorri mountain with my family and hundreds of other friends to follow the tradition, and greet people as we Basques do. Aizkorri is the most famous peak in the mountain range where the San Adrian pass is located. At its 1523 meters peak, Santo Cristo church is located, that's why is so popular.
Happy New Year to everyone! Welcome to all pilgrims who will pass through these mountain in 2025. Remember that these lands are sacred to the Basques (as are the Aralar, the Pyrenees, Anboto and Gorbeia). So take care of the environment, take care of yourself and greet people in the mountains in Basque! (eunon! Good morning! kasho! Hello!)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Happy New Year to you, too, @Mendizale! Though I don’t think you typically walk Caminos, your advice on the routes in the Basque Country, especially the Saiatz alternative to the Vasco, has been oh so helpful. I hope you will continue to check in on the forum, because you have knowledge that is not commonly shared. Many thanks for all of your help.

You are right. My father in law did the CF in 2009, a man who struggled to speak good Spanish and no words of English. But came back from Santiago with a good german friend who didn't spoke a word of Spanish. I have that reference and would love to do when retired. I have discovered that Donejakue bidea, the Camino passes from my area and didn't know many years ago. I have learnt many things and discovered Saiatz by your posts. So thank you very much! I knew the trails of course but didn't know it was Camino de santiago.
I tried to get better this excellent forum with my posts. Thank you very much for your nice words!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
@Mendizale , thank you for your kind wishes.
Urte berri on 2025 for you and yours, too.

So many fond memories of the Basque stages of the Via de Bayona, especially the day up to and through the Tunel San Adrian. Your day up there today would have been much colder!!

Next time in the Basque country I will try to remember your message and these greetings:

Join us from Logroño to Burgos in May 2025 or Astorga to OCebreiro in June.
The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
