I have ended up on the email list for the small-business-development officer in our town, Vila Nova da Barquinha. I think because I've asked some questions about running albergues, etc.
Anyway, it's interesting because she now forwards me info about various Portuguese government initiatives regarding subsidies for what they seem to classify as "micro"-, small-, and medium-sized businesses. (This is how Google translate seems to translate it.)
Recently I got a message about grant money available for these levels of business who need to digitize more, to deal with a post-Covid world. Money for small tourism businesses and similar, as well. I assume albergues would qualify. Funds would help pay for websites, for non-cash-handling automation like debit-card systems, and a host of similar items. Grants in the 4- to low 5-figure euro range.
The info is in Portuguese, but I'll post a link here, in any case. Presumably anyone reading, from this kind of business, could also read Portuguese.
It's called Programa Adaptar Turismo (micro, pequenas e médias empresas do turismo).
Link:
This page, in turn, has a link to a multi-page PDF that describes the details of the program.
Applications open Oct. 21, from what I read, and continue until the funds are gone. Sounds like 5 million euros have been allotted to this. Sounds like they will cover 75% to 85% of eligible upgrades.
Worth following up!
