Hello again,
I'm still in the process of flight arrangements and wondering if anyone has flown into Barcelona and then taken transport to SJPDP. So many options and details. Traveling solo and speak very little French or Spanish. Looking for the easiest way to get to SJPDP. I've received good suggestions coming via Madrid and France. Wondering if anyone has flown into Barcelona. The little details of arrival and departure times for each leg of the journey is a bit overwhelming!! Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I catch the train from Barcelona to Pamplona and from Pamplona there is a bus going to SJPDP.

There are a few train stations....

There is a subway train from the airport to Barcelona Sants every 30 minutes and a train to Pamplona every 4 hours.

In Pamplona, the train station is not very close to the bus station, so taxi or a local bus or walk to the bus station. At the bus station, there is a once a day bus to SJPDP at 13:45 (1:45 pm).

Alternately, spend a night or two in Barcelona, then bus to Toulouse, France. Bus to Pau. Shuttle to SJPDP.

It's a few more hours, but aren't options sweet!

Outside the Pamplona train station is a bus stop. Bus #9 will run about every 10 to 15 minutes to a block or so of the bus station. Another will go direct to the station and airport every hour.

The buses from Pamplona to SJPDP run daily in season. From 1 to 4 a day depending on the time of year.

We took the Barcelona to Pamplona train. Pretty easy but we stayed a few days in Barcelona first. Wish I had visited the Romanesque exhibit at the museum there before leaving. The Basilica of La Sagrada Familia brought tears to my eyes. We had previously visited when it was little more than a construction site.

It just so much easier getting from Biarritz/Bayonne to SJPP.... if you can get yourself there instead of Barcelona.

is it a pretty straight shot from the airport to the train station?

Yes it is! I forgot to to tell. There is a airport shuttle bus going into the city. But don’t jump off there most people jump off (Plaça Catalunya). Instead jump off at Plaça Espanya, which is very near the train station (Estació Barcelona-Sants).

In Pamplona it is a few kilometres from the train station to the bus station. Not too far :)

I found going from Barcelona to SJPP much easier and cheaper than going via Paris

Check flights to Bordeaux in lieu of Paris. From TX it was less expensive to fly to Bordeaux. Local train from Bordeaux airport to connection to Bayonne & then change to the train to SJPdP. I spent a night in Bordeaux & walked 10 mins from hotel near City Center to the local train to get to the main train station. Ck flights to Biarritz as well. You can either take a bus from Biarritz airport to the Bayonne train station (15 mins) or take a taxi (15-20 mins).

A friend got detailed instructions from a fellow Camiga (FB group) for Barcelona airport to SJPdP. She had never been overseas & didn’t speak Spanish & did fine. Try over there.

Just a food for thought comment: in 2017 I had to go to Pamplona from SJPdP (to meet someone) then back to SJPdP. Train to Pamplona ended up taking 7hrs with 2 exchanges and delays.
Pamplona to SJPdP on the bus took 2 hrs, no stops. Switchbacks were a little daunting, but scenery was beautiful.

I am flying into Madrid on October 26th. I will stay 2 days then fly to Pamplona and arrive at 10. Plenty of time to catch the afternoon bus to SJPP. Flight is 40US. Easy metro ride from Madrid to the airport. Shortmetro ride from Madrid to the airport. Short bus ride from Pamplona airport To bus station. I also booked a flight from Santiago to Madrid at the end of the Camino for$27US. Did it with Iberia.
