Galaxy S8 'Show Location' Question

OK. I don't intend getting too lost on the CF, and I realise it is not a 'back woods' trail and all that.

But I was just playing with my new phone, a Galaxy S8 and two location related things have me puzzled.

Q1.
I suppose reading the recent threads on people getting lost (and Yes I know that's a really hard to do on the CF), got me thinking about a handy safety feature of using my phone.

There must be a way to show my exact location (Latitude / Longitude).
For example, if one had to call for help, it would be kinda useful to give an accurate Lat Long location.

Well it has me foxed. Can't work it out.
Just use google maps I suppose....
I'm 600 m North of that weird junction, next to the bridge..........by the farm..........

Q2.
Another Lat Long related question.
OK, OK so I'm bored and looking for things vaguely Camino related to do!

I was looking at some old Camino photos checking the 'info' for picture quality compared to my new phone etc.
New phone is much better

And then noticed the Location is given in Lat Long.
Aha!

Here's a bit of fun to while away the time..........

One can post the Lat Long into google maps and see the exact location that the photo was taken!

If only the right data format is used......

Any idea which bit of this data gets posted into google maps?
I have tried every permutation and end up in Eastern Europe of the Middle East.......
Both wonderful places in their own right of course........
But not the ideal locations to look down upon El Acebo.......

Ah! Afternote. I finally worked out the syntax.
On google maps this is entered as.
42 29 17.9, -6 25 17.9

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi, my local hiking club visits a rhino protection nature reserve once a year. We are asked not to take photos, or alternatively, we are made to turn off the GPS/Location app on our phones. Otherwise, if anyone posts their photos on social media the exact location is available for any prospective poachers to see.

I believe I understand what you want to do, and there are typically a variety of ways to do it (depending on which messaging platforms and social networks you might use).

Using Google Maps, you can...
  • Tap the ~My Location~ icon (if it is not obvious, for instance if you have scrolled elsewhere), then
  • Tap on the blue dot indicating your location, then
  • Select "Share your location", then
  • Select "More" (3 dots), then
  • Share via whichever application you wish (Email, WhatSapp, Messages, Viber, Twitter, ...)
It seems more involved than it is, it just takes a couple of seconds. When I walked the VdlP I frequently messaged my location to family at the end of the day.

Not a stalker but I am enjoying your posts. ¡Buen Camino!

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
