Formatting/image options not available on phone

Hi all.

I'm not sure if this is by design or I've clicked something, but when I want to create or reply to posts on the forum I don't have the same options available on my phone (Samsung S23 Ultra) as I do on my PC or tablet. Specifically, I can't format the text or insert images; those options are greyed out on the phone (but the Preview button isn't).

I can understand a 'compressed' toolbar on the phone due to the smaller screen, but I can't figure out why I can't do this stuff at all. And if you guys want proper reports when I start walking in August, that's going to be a problem!

I have the same phone as you and this happens to me occasionally. It's usually because I've somehow tapped one of those sets of three dots. Perhaps three times in a row and summoned Beetlejuice to mess everything up. Usually the cure is to tap the three dots next to the I.
No guarantees though.

Actually a combination for me - first the three dots beside the 'undo' arrow, then the [ ] under that.

Wow, thanks for both the question and the answer - I've had similar problems in the past which just seem to randomly fix itself. Good to know that it wasn't just me

I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and no clicking on any three dots, anywhere has worked for me. I have complained about this before, and no one has an answer. I have to be on a PC to do anything, including highlighting, bolding, formatiing, emojis, attaching photos....

What browser are you using on your phone? I use Firefox, and as I have said, I have this problem occasionally. I have always been able to resolve it, but can never remember exactly what I did to mess it up or fix it. Once I had to uninstall Firefox, then reinstall it. Have you tried clicking on the [ ]? That is the toggle BB code button.

Did you know that your photos show up much nicer if you go the extra step and "insert as thumbnail."

When you don't what we see is a slightly fuzzy and distorted photo, but if it's attached as a thumbnail it's much clearer and not distorted. Either photo can be clicked on to enlarge if the view wishes.

I have always been able to resolve it, but can never remember exactly what I did to mess it up or fix it. Once I had to uninstall Firefox, then reinstall it. Have you tried clicking on the [ ]? That is the toggle BB code button.

I use Chrome. Ah, the [ ] function enabled it all. Crazy!! I just added this photo from my phone. Thank you!!!

Well, I thought I had, but I have to go to the extra step by clicking on the attachment. Will do in the future.

When you do you have the choice between full size and thumbnail. Ivar has increased the size of the thumbnail so it's a good size both on computer screens and phone screens, so it's usually a good option.

When I click on the photo icon and grab a photo, I see two photos
after the upload, a large one and a small one. I have the choice but only if I click on the smaller photo. The choice isn't apparent until I click on the smaller photo, with only "insert" visible. Then I have the choice. After I choose the thumbnail, I have to delete the larger photo, at least I think. This is the result. I hope this makes sense.

I don't think you need to delete anything, Elle. Once you post your message the image with the full/thumbnail choice disappears.

Or maybe not ... I just tried it!

Actually I believe that when you use the picture icon that it always inserts it full size. It you use the "attach files" button at the bottom of the response box you have the two options.
I don't know why it's set up this way.

When I use the picture icon then choose "insert as thumbnail" it comes up in both sizes.

True, the latter 'attach file' option works for me. Then a small rectangular (with the text 'insert') apears in the little picture. Clicking that lets me choose 'Thumbnail' or 'Full image'. Just choose 'Thumbnail' here,

So, my conclusion is not to use the picture icon but the 'attach file' option instead.
