Foiled again! Iberia changes flight time from Santiago

For about five years now, I've had a really sweet return trip home after my camino -- 9:15 am flight from Santiago to Madrid, 11:30 or noon flight to the US. It worked like a charm. I could even catch the airport bus from the Plaza de Galicia to save a few euros.

I just got an email from American Airlines that my flight time out of Santiago for my return trip home in July has been changed to 6:45 am. What?! Apparently the 9:15 flight is being discontinued, an outrage for all North American bound pilgrims who want to fly from Santiago and connect with flights leaving between 11:30 and 1:00 pm.

Not sure there is anything to be done, but it does make the idea about flying straight from Santiago to home less attractive for those of us who have to get on flights that typically leave in the late morning/early afternoon. Maybe this isn't a permanent cancellation, but I can't seem to find any information about what happened, and the American Airlines agents don't have a clue.

I feel your pain as that's all I could find. Also some airport appreciation time with a 4 hr 45 min layover in Madrid before heading home as well.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I also found out similar info yesterday. I had book a return
flight from Santiago to Madrid then LAX on May 13th. I was
advised that there was no longer a flight from Madrid to Lax. I started researching AA web for additional flights and found
that they just stopped those flights on Fri, Sat and Sun but
still had the 9:20 am on a few other days. Darn! I will need
to stay in Spain longer. How fun.

Well, T4 in Barajas is a Mecca to consumerism, so you will have no shortage of ways to spend money, but I usually find that shopping is not what someone who's been walking for weeks feels like doing. If you happen to have enough miles you can use the lounge. I learned a while ago that I had been eligible to go into the the Admiral's Club for years and never knew it. If you have Platinum status (50,000 miles a year), you can use the club when you are traveling internationally. And the one in Madrid is very nice. Lots of food, comfy chairs, computers, even a sleep room!

Message for mpallen004: There is a pilgrim meetup happening this week in Cambridge.

Please forgive this off topic post but I'm a new forum member trying to contact another new forum member. Either I'm not managing to private message correctly or my message is not being seen and I've got a short deadline to get the message across. So I'm posting this to a forum likely being followed by my target recipient in the Boston area.
