Hello all of my wonderful Camino family. After hiking the CF in Sept 2015 and the Portuguese in 2018, I (like most) have been setting my sights to the next Camino I could do.
Well, after getting married in 2019 and having an awesome baby boy in 2020, not to mention a global pandemic. My wife and I finally have a bit of an opening to at least do a bit of the CF in early/mid June 2023. I should mention that my wife is currently pregnant with our second boy.
Last April 2021 my family lost our wonderful father at 88 years old. He had grown up in Catania, Sicily and survived WWII, moved to America and lived out the American dream with our mom. We will be spreading some of my fathers ashes as a family in Sicily next June, but my wife and I spotted an opportunity to finally get back on the Camino, even if briefly.
We will have a 3 year old and a newly 1 year old and couldn’t be more excited. The rough idea in our minds is to fly to Madrid, train to Pamplona and walk from there to Léon. (We would have approximately 2 weeks, so perhaps we walk further) Would I love to start in Roncesvalles? Absolutely, but with the little kids, I think the fewer modes of transportation to get where we are going, the better for mom and dad’s sanity. From our stopping point we would train to Santiago and then fly from Santiago to meet family in Sicily.
If anyone has any suggestions/amendments to our plan, I would love to hear them. Also, anyone who has walked the Way with little ones, any tips/tricks are so welcomed.
Buen Camino a todos
