Excellent gîte in La Clauze

My second day on the Podiensis brought me to Les Rochers de La Clauze, right on the Way and run by the delightful Jean Luc and Marie. They’re not in Wise Pilgrim, the Cicerone book, and Buen Camino. I was referred by a nearby Chambre owner who was full. Les Rochers is a donativo, modern, clean, has a laundry machine, the food is excellent, and I am the only guest tonight. I paid about what I am paying other gîtes. They were full last night and expect five tomorrow. La Clauze is about 7 km past Saugues.

Any more info. Brian ... such as a phone number?? and where it is situated in the village? Thank you kindly in advance

Jean Luc is reached at +33 06 65 50 30 51. Try WhatsApp. They’re right on the Way in the center of the village, just past the water trough.

I tried that phone # for Les Rochers on What's App and it doesn't come up. Any other way to reach them? Or do you know of another Gites in Le Clauze? Gites Au Repose d/Anton is full Thanks,

Not that I know of Cynthia ... have you tried phoning or sending a text message?

I put the phone # into Whats App and it does a search and doesn't find anything whether I put it in as a Chat or a Call. I just tried sending it by text message on my Iphone so we'll see if I get a response to that. Thanks, Cynthia

That's the number I used to reach Jean Luc. I recall Jean Luc saying he closes in winter because of little traffic, so he may not have reopened yet for the season.

not everyone is on WhatsApp but worth a try!

I tried that number and added it to WhatsApp ... no problem ... is definitely there!

I found Gite d'etape Le Refuge des Pelerins de Margeride. However, there was no email address for me to contact. Please give me the names of a gite in La Clauze WITH email addresses if you know of any. Thanks in advance and bon chemin.

Bonjour @hieudovan ... you might like to try «au Répos d’Antan» lest they have had a cancellation; otherwise «le Refuge des pèlerins de Margeride» [phone bookings only on 06 81.20.66.08] also in the village ...

p.s. I would also re-send the WhatsApp message ... September is such a busy month for the accommodation hosts that, perhaps, they have overlooked your message Happened to me last week ... when I re-sent the message I got a swift reply.

Bon jour BlackRocker57. I tried to use WhatsApp to this phone number by adding +33 in place of "0" (for France), i.e., +33681206608. Is this correct? I am in California. So far I have not been successful with WhatsApp. I have been having better luck with emailing. I might just have someone help me call these gites for reservations once I'm in Le Puy. Thanks for any help/info. Bon chemin.

I finally received a response after 2 attempts of texting via WhatsApp. Unfortunately for me, the place is full. Looks like I will be making phone calls (with some help) once I land in France. Thank you again for your help. Bon chemin.

I stayed here in 2018 when I walked the Via Podiensis on my second stage after leaving Le Puy. It looks renovated and under new ownership now, but hope the experience and food there is as wonderful as my memories.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately this was not available for Saturday, Sept 14. I was able to find lodging at a small Airbnb (total 2 beds!). I am currently looking for lodging for my next stop in La Clauze. I appreciate everyone's trying to help out. I have walked 5 Caminos in Spain and Portugal. Never had to make reservations and always had a bed. I hear that Via Podiensis is beautiful, so here I am. At least my first 3 days are taken care of. Bon chemin.

I walked the Podiensis a year ago at this time and generally booked ahead a week. Also, the Gronze website is very helpful for reasonably up to date information on accommodations along the route, often including user reviews from previous pilgrims. Gronze lists three accommodations in La Clauze, not counting the refuge municipal, which is essentially camping.

Thank you Brian. I've been trying to make reservations for over the last TWO weeks. Alas, all are full on the date of my arrival in La Clauze, Sunday September 15. I am sure I will be able to find a place once I'm in France. Worst case scenario I'll be staying at a hotel. Thanks to all of you for your information, and more importantly, your helping spirit. if you are happy to stay at a chambre d’hôte i.e. bed-and-breakfast there is also an excellent one at La Clauze ... it is called «la Coustette de La Clauze» email <contact@coustette-de-la-clauze.fr> phone 09 82.57.45.88. It is possible to reserve via their website that you can find with a simple internet / web search ...

As far as I am aware there is no email address for «le Refuge des pèlerins de Margeride» ...
