I realise that this book won't be for everyone, but for those of you with even a smattering of Spanish I do recommend it highly.
It is called El Camino Secreto de Santiago and the author is Rafael Lema.
I bought my copy at Encontros Bookshop in Santiago but it is also available online. Rafael looks at the perhaps "secret" history of the Santiago pilgrimage. And if you are thinking of continuing on to Finisterre in particular, this is compulsive reading.
I have been in touch with Rafael personally. He says he has a lot to add to the first volume but is feeling the pinch of censorship especially since this is a "Holy Year". This is a real shame as his book is in no way disrespectful to the Santiago tradition, but seeks to elucidate the continuation of pilgrims to "the Ends of the Earth" as it has been seen since long before Santiago even became associated with the Camino de las Estrellas.
