Can we please talk kilometres, litres, Celsius, right-side driving, etc.?

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
err..it is!..comes from the latin to French...somewhat before the US
Etymology is past not present. It tells you where the word came from, not where it is. So the etymology won't tell you a correct current meaning (or spelling). Otherwise it would be foolish to be nice and we would all pay our fees in cattle.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I love the concept of measuring stages in Beers. There is an intrinsic issue with the concept though. As everyone is aware the last three kilometres of any given stage are twice as long as the first three kilometres. Critics of St John's excellent guides will bear witness.

I suspect that distances measured in Beers will be reflected in an escalating scale rather than linear. Much as Earthquakes are measured in Richters or Logarithmic scales are applied to probability. Ergo a linear increase in Beers implies a logarithmic increase in impact.

A concept elegantly expressed by Dorothy Parker: 1 Martini, Two Martinis, Three Martinis, Floor.

An Ancient Roman Pilgrim walks into a bar, sits down and says
"I'll have a martinus please."
"Don't you mean a martini?" The bartender asks
The Ancient Roman Pilgrim replies
"If I wanted a double I would have asked for it.
"

An Ancient Roman Pilgrim
walks into a bar, strides up to the bartender, and holds up two fingers
"Five beers, please"

:p:eek:
