Here we are! My brother and I have finished our first day of the Camino Primitivo starting in Lugo. Of course, the things that I was worried about were fine (plenty of open restaurants / food on Reyes Magos, no food on this tramite as expected but our sandwiches from Lugo were perfect) and the things I didn't expect have thrown us for a loop (a last minute cancellation from my father due to injury, storm warnings off the Galician coast that have resulted in quite heavy rain).

We left Lugo at about 9am this morning after getting sandwiches to bring for the journey. The walk was great, and we were cheerful despite the rain and my dad's cancellation. The restaurant I'd planned for us to eat at in San Ramón was closed today, since they were open for the festivo yesterday. A quick Estrella in the nearby tavern instead! Around this point we realized how sopping wet we were but only had a bit more to go.

Our hotel for the night is fantastic: very clean, comfortable, great food and a pool for the nicer months. As we're arranging our start time for tomorrow, we've pushed it earlier and earlier due to the extreme weather expected tomorrow. We're trying to thread the needle of leaving early enough to beat the worst of it while also not walking unnecessarily in the dark.

We saw other pilgrims on the bus and a couple in Lugo. We are yet to see any on the actual way. Tomorrow's walk with link us up with the Camino Frances where some of the other brave, the few, the January pilgrims, may be? Time will tell! Website says 47 people arrived in Santiago yesterday, so there are others out here somewhere!

More to come tomorrow - rain that is. The Camino will provide. Malo será.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
