I remember being on the CF between Burguete and Zubiri when a bike race took place on the Camino path. Exercise caution pilgrims! Camino racing - argh!

As visiting pilgrims we must never forget that daily life continues in all the villages and towns we pass.
For us it is a Caminopath , for the locals it is the place where they can relax after work and participate in leisurely activities.

Not disputing how Caminos are shared paths. I have encountered many locals out biking on weekends no differently than I might do at home. However, a Sunday ride and a timed distance race are two very different things. I’d hate to see any walker (a pilgrim or a local) injured by a high speed biker approaching from behind. You can be pretty sure that no bell will be used signaling their approach.

I must be lucky then that I only meet well behaved cyclists here at home and on a Camino...🙂

The only time I have been run down by a cyclist was in my home town on a shared, paved path on a reasonably bright day. He just didn't see me. It happens. But so far, not in Spain, or Portugal. And those cyclists with whom I shared the path for a few moments in the past couple of years have always provided ample warning of their presence. After all the horror stories and negative press that some people give them here, it was encouraging that none of them behaved badly.
