As I walked westward towards Los Arcos yesterday, my shadow stretched long before me and I had the fanciful thought that it was racing on ahead, much faster than I could go, “Come back, Shadow, I can’t keep up!”
Heat will do strange things to a brain and while I was urging my Shadow to slow down, my husband was working on new lyrics to Billy Joel’s song, “Piano Man,” only he, of course, changed it to “Camino Man.” Here is a taste of his creation for your pleasure:
“It's eight AM on a Saturday,
And the regular crowd shuffles out,
There's an old man limping next to me,
And he looks up at me with a pout,
He says, “Son, can you sing me a memory,
It's something to do with the blues,
It's sad and it's sweet,
And I knew it complete,
When I wore a younger man's shoes!”
Chorus:
Sing us a song, Camino man,
Sing us a song, with a smile,
And we'll take up the song
As we struggle along,
And make our "Way" cross the miles!
Glenn's a wildlife scientist,
Who's madly in love with his wife,
And he's talking with Sally,
Who's thinking of Sully,
And probably will be for life,
(chorus)
Now I’m looking afar,
At a friend of mine,
She's way down the trail from me,
Though I'm falling behind,
There's always a sign,
And there's nowhere that I'd rather be!
Sing us a song Camino man…..
(Note: I’m Glenn’s wife, “Sally,” and “Sully” is our 4 year old granddaughter, who is with us in spirit!)
