Breaking up the long days

Time of past OR future Camino
Kumano Kodo 2023, Le Puy Camino 2025
I am planning to walk the Camino from Le Puy next year and can see some of the days in the typical routes are very long between traditional stopping towns. I want to think about breaking up those long days and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for Gites that enable me to do shorter days of about 20 instead of 30 klms. Alternatively, any sources of information that may shed light on this. Thanks a mill

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
You can also turn to the downloadpage of the Dutch Confraternity of Saint James for a wealth of information on, amongst others, the Via Podiensis (GR65).

I would echo the openness to also using the communal Albergues on occasion, it is part of the adventure and adds colour to your Camino and shared experience. Far from being just a cheap lodging option they are the life breath of the Camino (coming from someone who couldn't bear the thought of staying in one when he started his Camino).

Thank you for your kind advice davejsy.

Hi @Robbo55, there is also a useful spreadsheet made available by author and forum member Dave Whitson (@Dave). You can find it here:

It does not say when it was last updated but I think it is frequently updated and I see that there are entries referring to "new from April 2024" so it is probably very up to date. Thank you to @Dave for making this available!

I also like using the Wise Pilgrim app to easily calculate distances between cities. It's basically a beta version of the app so it doesn't have any historical info etc but it's still useful (and free).

Indeed, it is updated on a daily or weekly basis as necessary ... so very up-to-date ...

The Via Podiensis is also on Gronze. It is not only useful for places to stay, but helps with determining difficulty of terrain, distances between places, etc. Use it in Chrome to switch the language to English, or pop the website into GoogleTranslate [website tab] for English. I find it useful as a planning tool. https://www.gronze.com/camino-santiago-le-puy

Use Gronze and translate to English. You can then look at distance and altitudes to give you a choice plus tap on a town and you will get the Gites or Booking.com option. Type in Gronze Le Puy and it will come up for you. It is so quick I just go on line each time.

2.
Etchetoa pilgrim hostel
1274 Quartier Harambeltz,

Highly reccomend Godesalco site for planning shorter stages!! You can draft an excel spreadsheet itinerary with your shorter route in just a few minutes. Godesalco supports many of the camino routes including Le Puy. I used the site to select towns, based off distance, for my 38 day Camino Frances pilgramage that I completed on June 11. I wanted to only walk between 11-15 miles/20-25 km a day. The site shows you every town and its distance from previous selected one. Will take you less than a few minutes to select towns and then site outputs a great set of files one of which is nifty excel spreadsheet with those towns with daily milage and daily altitude based on your selections including dates based off your start date. After downloading the excel spreadsheet, I added a column for name of places i would be staying. I used guidebooks to research background on towns. TIP: If you decide to change stage/town list, it's faster to create a new draft itinerary on web site instead of updating the previously downloaded excel spreadsheet of towns. The site doesn't save anything after it generates files.
Then I just printed the 2 page spreadsheet and carried it with me and emailed it to myself and my family members as my itinerary.
Check it out:^)

Be reassured that it is [in fact] very easy to customise this chemin to your own preferences ... and walk just the number of kms that suit you ... no need whatsoever to walk 30kms; buy the Miam Miam Dodo guidebook, check out gronze and / or Buen Camino app

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I walked the Via Podiensis in 2018 and loved it. used "The Lightfoot guide to the Via Podiensis". I don't think Dave Whitson had his guidebook out at that time and I'd had never yet heard of Gronze. My two girlfriends and I managed even though we did not speak French or have any decent maps or apps. I recall we got lost twice, but for no more than an hour each time.

Hi I also walked this route some years ago (2013). I didn't have a smartphone then so no gpx tracks or app. I used the Cicerone Guide (Alison Raju) I think the Dave Whiston guide is an update of this. I also had Miam Miam DoDo which was very useful in the planning. It was a beautiful walk I really enjoyed it. I think it must have been well signposted because I don't remember getting really lost, and there were quite a few other pilgrims.
I'm sure you will be able to find accommodation that suits the distances you are planning. Good luck.

The Via Podiensis is also on Gronze. It is not only useful for places to stay, but helps with determining difficulty of terrain, distances between places, etc. Use it in Chrome to switch the language to English, or pop the website into GoogleTranslate [website tab] for English. I find it useful as a planning tool. https://www.gronze.com/camino-santiago-le-puy

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Check it out:^)
Check it out I will. Many thanks for sharing

Thanks Camino Chrissy- very helpful

Just doing a deeper dive now into the rich resource.....Can you tell me please

Just dived into the site, and you are right, it is fantastic thanks looking4totoro

Hi again, could you share with me please what the "Plan" and 'Ref #' columns refer to?
