Best way to return to Barcelona from Leon or Burgos.

Time of past OR future Camino
May 2016
I will be walking the Camino Frances starting from STJPDP May 9 and have 18 days to walk. By my estimation, I will end up somewhere between Burgos and Leon and need to return to Barcelona for a late morning flight back to Canada on May 28. What is my best option? Thanks

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
The Trenhotel (sleeper train) leaves Leon at 00.12am arrives Barcelona 08.49am and a Cama Grand Clase (private sleeping compartment) costs 65.15 euros around that date. The other fares vary depending on how long the journey takes, fast trains being very much more expensive. The night train is a real bargain at the special tourist rate. Buen Camino!

From Burgos to Barcelona:
Trenhotel 2.17am - 8.49am Cama Grand Clase 59.85 euros
Daytime dep. 8.21- arr. 14.20 53.05 euros
dep. 12.30 - arr. 18.50 59.85 euros
dep. 15.08 - arr. 21.25 46.05 euros

A 2.17 am start does not sound much fun but the journey from Leon would be cheap and save the cost of a hotel for the night in Barcelona.

See Ayuntamiento de Burgos Estacion de Autobuses for bus service to villages from Burgos to Fromista. Autobuses Amaya once daily between Burgos and Fromista including stops at some but not all the villages.

See ALSA for bus service between Leon and Burgos where there is highway access (essentially after Carrion de Los Condes)

Renfe provides train service from Fromista to Palencia and points beyond.

Renfe provides train service from Sahagun.

You might want to compare travel times for Renfe train from either of Burgos, Palencia, Sahagun, or Leon to Barcelona with travel times to Madrid and transfer to trains from Madrid to Barcelona.

There are also flights between Barcelona and Leon. Just one a day (I think) but worth checking out. Iberia.com.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The Trenhotel sounds like a good option as my plane leaves at 12:50 from Barcelona. Do you think I should reserve a spot now? If so, is it through RENFE?

Yes, I forgot to say that these very cheap fares are available by booking in advance. If you have difficulties in buying your ticket on the RENFE website try using Paypal, I found it to be trouble free and could print off my ticket immediately. When you have entered where you are travelling from and your destination and the date, the various times will appear, click on the options or Opciones button '+' alongside the Trenhotel entryon the far right and this will take you to a new page where there is a drop down box 'Clase' press this and you will have the option of just a seat Butaca Gran Confort or Cama G Clase for not much more with a bed. Buen Camino!

I booked the Trenhotel today via Loco2 but when I went to book the Cama Clase, the price doubled for no apparent reason. So I booked the reclining chair for a lot less. It is only 6 hours so I will be OK.
Thanks fro your help.

I am not certain but I think that Loco2 charge a commission on bookings as they act as 'middlemen'. Glad your journey to Barcelona is sorted. Buen Camino!
