Hi Pilgrims! I'm planning to walk the Camino Ingles in late May. From what I've read, the majority of the walking takes place on asphalt. I've completed the Camino Frances (from Ponferrada to Santiago de Compostela) and the Camino Portugues from Porto to Santiago and wore boots on both (somewhat regrettably on the Portugues as I didn't feel I necessarily needed them). Any advice you have would be great. Buen Camino!

Walked the Inglés last April, more tarmac than I prefer, I wore trail runners. ANY comfortable shoes would do. Certainly not a trail I’d recommend boots for, although I wore trail runners on the Primitivo too. I’m enjoy hiking, my boots are reserved for backwoods/ more technical trails than most Caminos (and the winter months.)
Each to their own.

Wear what suits your feet. Wear what you are comfortable in. Why change?

Hi
I did the Inglis back in September wearing my Salomon boots. But I saw plenty of shoes and trainers. I'd wear whatever works for you.

Just bought a pair of Altra Lone Peak 8 trail runners and they are amazing, so much so I’m thinking about wearing them on my next combined Podiensis/Francés in the Fall ‘24. Haven’t walked the Ingles, but by the sound of it with mostly asphalt, trainers or trail runners should be fine. Bottom line, do what works for you.

I have done the Frances in boots until the next then Lone Peaks from there on. Planning on doing the Ingles.
I would say if there was more tarmac I would certainly go for something with a more padded shock absorbing Mid sole. Topo, Altra Hoka all do something specific to absorb the shock. I also have a wide foot so some careful

I wore the same Altra Olympus shoes on the ingles, the portugués, the sanabres, and the frances. Yes, there is more road walking on the ingles, but no need for different footwear, imo. Like all the Caminos, the ingles isn’t technical. There are no rock scrambles or steep climbs. Just wear what is comfortable for your feet. I walked the ingles in April, so just a bit earlier than when you’re planning.

I have spent months looking for the best shoe to get over the Pyrenees and all the way to Santiago. I tried Saucony, Altra, Solomon, Brooks and HOKA. In my opinion, HOKA Speedgoat 5's are way above every other brand. I had a complete quadricep rupture and surgery about 18 months ago. Socks and shoes are a big deal for me to be successful. Also, the best socks that we have found are Iniji Marino wool toe sock liners. My wife and I will also be walking out of SJPDP in late May. Maybe we will cross paths.
