Bedbugs in Torres del Rio Albergue

Padre J

New Member
An fyi. At Albergue Casa Mariela. Was bitten last night and saw a bedbug with my own eyes in the middle of the night crawling on my arm. I packed my stuff and slept on a bench outside. Notified the owner in the morning, they checked the bed and when they didn't find any, they denied it and blamed me! Extremely unhelpful and not willing to help to disinfect which I thought was standard operating procedure when a pilgrim reports bedbugs. So I'm on my own to take care of it. Warning about this place.

That is not a useful reaction. While it is possible that you brought them with you, they really should be more concerned, or at least act more concerned. I found them decent people, so perhaps they were embarrassed as well as skeptical. I would not be surprised if they did a little treating after your report.

Several years ago, I found a bedbug in Casa Mariela.
I caught it and handed it to them.
They seemed concerned.
You know, it's the end of the season and they're all probably just exhausted.
But I'm sorry that happened to you.
I tell people to take precautions - bedbugs are everywhere these days, not just on the Camino.

There are Bees, ticks, flies, bugs, spiders, mosquitoes, ants in almost all the planet.
the insects have been the most successful animal class in the history of the earth, they survived the dinosaurs and will be on the earth long after we extinguish ourselves.
