Auberge picks

Hello,
My friend and I will walk from St Jean to Burgos next fall. We will mostly stay in private accommodations, ( light sleeper who gets up in the night) but would like to stay perhaps half a dozen nights in an auberge to mix things up. Are there any suggestions of priority places to include as an auberge stop? Thanks.

Hi @auburnfive,
Some of the most wonderful albergue experiences unfortunately come with some of the most uncomfortable sleeping arrangements where you will be sleeping on a thin mat on the floor. For these, I can certainly recommend the Parochial donativo in Viana and Hospital de San Juan Bautista in Granon. There are opportunities to join in the community with shared preparation of a meal, a pilgrim's mass, and after supper dishes are washed up, to participate in time of reflection about the Camino.

The big albergue as Roncesvalles has the opportunity for shared dinner and also a pilgrim mass, but you do get to sleep in a bunk.

Hi Bercianos is a wonderful donantivo right before Shagun with many opportunities for shared experiences (cooking, reflection, etc)- Also, Estella's municipal albergue is one of the nicest, cleanest municials I've been to- not much on planned shared experiences

A great book to listen to while training for the Camino or to relive the experience!
Albergue parroquial San Francisco de Asus at Tosantos. A donovito where you sleep on mattresses on the floor, no WiFi, community dinner, which you help make accompanied by gregoriano chants sung by the hospitalero and, a chance to take part in a multilingual short service and moments of reflection. A beautiful experience.
