I haven’t been able to find much current ATM info for Madrid airport terminal4. I want to use a bank ATM. I only have 50 minutes between flights so I don’t want to go out beyond security. Also, it used to be that many Madrid airport ATMs tended to be out of service. Recent experience welcome as I will be flying into Madrid this Friday afternoon at 3pm. Thanks

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I’m assuming you’re taking another flight in Europe and therefore want Euros? I’ve used an airside ATM in T4 and a landside ATM in T1 at Madrid Barajas in the last 6 months.

There are also foreign exchange desks which (at a cost) would meet your needs and there’s always the option of going landside wherever you’re travelling to from Madrid.

Thanks. I land in Madrid Friday afternoon forr flight to Santiago. Not much connection time.

Easier...before taking your flight, change a small amount of your national currency to euros. Let's say 40 euros, enough for a taxi from Lavacolla airport to Santiago and some snack. Then, in the city, look calmly for an ATM.
It will be a bit more expensive, but hey, being calm and rested is worth the cost.
IMHO, there is no need to add more stress in a travel...

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
There are several bank-connected ATMs at the airport, coming out of baggage claim and customs. I know that Santander is represented, as are other Spanish banks.

As I have stated elsewhere, ONLY use an ATM that is either attached to a working bank OR is clearly identified as being owned by that bank. You may still pay transaction fees. But they will be much lower than a privately owned ATM.

In addition, you have NO expectations of security if using a privately-owned ATM. Security protocols are relatively greater for bank-owned and operated ATMs.

Caveat emptor folks!

I ran all over the Madrid airport looking for ATMs and found two that were both out of order. Im not saying this is a typical scenario, but it was mine. I ended up at a currency exchange place.

That’s what I’m worried about. But it is what it is. I have enough euros for the airport taxi so I’m not desperate. Would just be simpler if I could take care of it earlier than that evening in Santiago after a long travel night and day.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
As for Compostela, look for "Santiago de Compostela, ATM" in google maps. I can see one just behind the cathedral.
Have a good travel!

There are several ATM's in Madrid T4. Have a look at this page.
In the left side menu, choose "servicios bancaros" and "casjeros automáticos"

I noticed you live in Portland ME. If your flying out of Boston/Logan, I believe there is a currency exchange booth at the airport.

Good luck.

Buen Camino.
