Alto do Poio hostels

Time of past OR future Camino
French way (June 2018) with Finisterra. Camino Dragonte being considered en route.
Hi all, Has anyone stayed at the Santa Maria in Alto do Poio? Was wondering how much they charge for the night. No mention of price on their website. Also, what did you think of the place. Many thanks.

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
27-35E for a single; 35-40E for a double.

Reviews are generally not favorable, but I love their bar! Both the albergue and the hostal get very mixed reviews. Walk just another 3.3km from Alto, and the albergue gets rave reviews particularly for its dinner.
OK, so not much cheaper than the albergue over the road. Maybe worth walking on to Fonfria then. Only 9 euros. Wanted a light walk from Herrerias after Dragonte route, but hey ho, I'll do the extra 3km if it means I can afford myself a bottle of the red stuff.

Years back now (2014)but I stayed at the del Puerto just as you enter the village. Walked in fromTrabadelo.Miserable winter weather, with rain, snow drifts fromO’Cebreiro on. From memory there was a nice modern albergue at Hospital de la Condesa but not a scrap of food to be found in the town anywhere (winter). I was sopping wet. 6 euros a night then.

Not very big but single rooms motel quality but a bit old. Lovely fire in the bar. The best meal I had on my camino until I got to the octopus place in Melide. And the young lady behind the bar was absolutely gorgeous.

Started to snow that night and heavied up the next morning. Good! Snow is at least dry, not wet. Until halfway down the hill to Triacastela when it turned to rain, so sopping wet again when I reached Sarria.

Fun!

Didn't stay there, the bar/cafe was great, and a good place to sit and catch up with other pilgrims as they came up that steep hill. We stayed at the place opposite, (there's only 2), I would never stay there again, it was very mediocre, and they were quite unhelpful. Walk on to Fonfria, my sister stayed there and really enjoyed it.

Never stayed there, but always stop for the bacon and egg (second) breakfast. I’d echo others and suggest walking on to Fonfria to sleep - the walk is very flat, and the Albergue (and dinner) at Fonfria is quite special.

Fail to prepare? reduce your risk by buying this book full of practical info.
2nd ed.
You've convinced me. Fonfria it is. I'll have a leisurely stroll to Samos the following day. ☺️

And you'll have plenty of time to enjoy that walk, I thought it was the most beautiful scenery we walked through. And lots of time to look through the monastry.
