Hello friends, I'd love to get a massage (or two or three) along the Camino Frances this fall. Any recommendations for massage therapists along the way? Thank you.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

My friend arranged massages through the Hotel del Cid in Burgos and the Hotel Spa Ciudad de Astorga. The Casa Austria in Los Arcos had a donativo massage, limited availability there and first come first served. The other spa in Astorga also can arrange a massage. After 35 days on the Camino, the spa in Astorga was great, even without a massage.

Are you after a 'relaxing' type massage (candles and oils type stuff)
or 'physio' type massage?

I've had a couple of the former in Fromista and O Cebreiro, and whilst they were 'relaxing' I'm not sure they helped me much physically.

Of the latter I've had a great help from many physios along the Camino.
Whatever the technical term is, remedial massage, sports massage etc.

I would almost suggest that any Physio (Fisioterapia) in Spain is good!
I use google maps and add Fisio to find them.
They are very good at what they do and not expensive compared to home
(about half the cost or less of Australia)

As an example there are 3-4 on google maps in Arzua. I went to Crismar.
In Carrion de las Condes my wife and I went to Clínica de Fisioterapia Laura
In Ponferrada I have been to Clínica Plantío Centro a couple of times........

Google maps is your best bet. Though be aware you will usually need to book.
I sometimes asked one Fisio if they could recommend another further down the line and help me to book an appointment. Turning up as a 'walk in' doesn't really work.

I get problems with Achilles, Plantaar Facia, shins etc etc.
So physio visit helps a lot now and again.

There are lots of them.
Here is a snapshot of Ponferrada for example!

If it's more the 'Spa' type massage you are after, I used "masaje" on google maps.

Here is Ponferrada again. Lots of them.

Wonderful. Thank you.

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
Thank you so much. I'm looking for deep tissue or sports massage. Great tips. Thank you.

Gotcha. So Fisio is what you are looking for.
Thankfully loads of them along the Camino.......
I'm so glad to hear that. Yeah.

There is a great massage therapist who comes in the afternoons to Albergue A Reboreira in Fonfria who is a very nice English speaking German lady. She is usually there every day from about 3pm on. You could contact the albergue by WhatsApp. It’s a great albergue with kind hosts, a great common area and a good pilgrim meal in the traditional Galician building next door.

Wonderful. Thanks for the recommendation.

Albergue La Apalgateria in Villafranca Montes des Oca. On top of being an amazing hospitalera Christina is also a certified masseuse

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Deep Tissue at the pharmacia when you enter Sahagun. You'll see the big sign painted on the side of the building. You can't miss it. So good.

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.

Mudan Masajes in Burgos (Thai massage).

Casa Bahkti in Rabanal (great bodywork and myofascial release work).

I treated myself to a night at the Hotel Spa Ciudad de Astorga, across the street from the Palace of Gaudí. It was perfectly dreamy. Had the pool and hot tub to myself and then a great massage. Most comfy bed I've ever slept in.
