The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
You have got a lot of good research! I think this is a fabulous idea. One thing I would just throw out there, especially if you have walked the Caminho Portugues already, is that you have a choice in Braga. Instead of going to the Central Portuguese route, you could take the Geira e dos Arrieiros, which is a very beautiful route (but totally solitary like the Torres). Don’t mean to give unsolicited advice, but it looks like you are drawn to untraveled routes, and the Geira definitely fits that definition.

I posted on FindPenguins when I walked the Torres/Geira in 2022.

The only uncertainty I have about your proposed itinerary is your plan to stay in the Bombeiros for four or five nights. You may be lucky and find that they can take you, but I would not rely on it, just based on what others have reported. Definitely have a back-up plan. Private accommodation is available in all of those places, not terribly expensive usually but not free like I understand the Bombeiros is.

Bombeiros in Mesão Frio was still possible in 2021, not sure about the others.

And +1 for the Geira, especially since it will avoid any doubling up when you go back and walk the full CP.

Flights booked…Sept/Oct so the excitement of the planning stage begins.

My current plan is to walk the Torres from Spain and meet up with where I finished the Nascente last year in Trancoso, continue to Braga and then walk the Geira.

Like myself, perhaps many people walk without posting updates.
Sooo, a pretty please for any folk who have walked Torres recently 2024.

Please share your interesting accommodation recommendations…🙏🏻🤭

I walked in 2022. I didn’t post live on the forum (though I did a live Find Penguins, which I linked to in my Torres post here).

I remember watching Álvaro’s videos and saw that he slept in a lot of Bombeiros, even though the official Torres website does not list many. But I think that may be because he, as a peregrino extraordinaire, gets special privileges. The website does have a good, and I think relatively up to date, listing of accommodations for each stage. The Torres has great albergues for the first three stages in Spain, but then it was all pensiones and hotels for me. I can see if I can find a list, I’m sure it’s in my camino filing drawer somewhere!

I had a few questions before starting out and Luis was very responsive and helpful. The Torres-Geira is one of my very favorites, no doubt about it.

I'm planning on walking the Torres (and Geira) in November, so will be eagerly watching for any reports and recommendations, too.
Oh great news David. I may not post as I walk, finding it very tricky on a mobile with uncooperative eyes ;)
My plan is to make a post on return with all the juicy details.
In fact I’m currently writing up the Nascente notes (walked in 2021 and 2022) to post here.
Better late than never 🤭

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Hi Laurie and thanks for your recommendations. I’ve beaten you to the post 😉 and been through your Penguins notes with a fine toothed comb, combining them with all posts on the forum. I also spent a long luxurious afternoon with Alvaro ( figuratively) going through all his videos.

One thing though, do you have a contact for Luis (PM me if inappropriate to share online)
Many thanks for all you do. I hope to meet up one day 🎉

Agree, but don't make the mistake of asking at the Braga official tourist office. When I asked last year, they (in good english) strongly advised me that is was dangerous and not to walk that route. 🤣 Curious ? Ignore the tourist office unless you are feeble.

There is an excellent person in Braga, who is somehow connected with the Geira guide book, who can be of great assistance on current issues and places to stay (sorry I have lost his details, someone here probably knows him).

A critical piece of advice relates to the track conditions on the first day and to avoid stopping at a place that would be a shorter day 1 out of Braga (I can't remember its name).

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I got a lot of good info from @pelerine also, whose blog is listed on the official website with lots of other blogs, have you seen that list?

Luis says there have been some changes that should make life easier on the Torres, and I will send you his email in a PM.
Laurie, is Pelerin named Gilles? If so, then yes I’ve also been through his blog. Maybe I’m absolutely up to date.

Actually I have more trepidation for the Geira 😂

Thanks again . . . You’re an encyclopaedia 🙏😊

Well, I am hoping to catch up with Henrique in Braga to get info and maybe guidebook
I have his phone number.
Thanks Sirage

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

I think that most people stop at Caldelas on the first day. That’s 17 km from Braga. Did you have a problem there?

I have heard nothing but good things about the albergue, but I was enticed by a beautiful shaded garden with seating on the way into town, and got a good price at Corredoura Garden. And having a short day gives you plenty of time to explore the thermal bath installations and the fountains. There were all kinds of water on offer (with medical prescription only) for different ailments and body parts. It was really interesting.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

My memory is not clear, and I haven't the time to check my notes today, but it is probable that the track into Caldelas was the problem. I was strongly advised to avoid going there. Hopefully someone can clarify that. That is why it is good to verify current local conditions when you are in Braga with Henrique. And of course @jungleboy has some knowledge.

Last year, having walked from Almeria to Oursense, bussed to Braga, had a few days R&R, got organised for the de Geira and booked accommodation for the first few days, I had a severe tooth ache the night before I was to start walking.

So instead of walking onwards to Santiago, at 7am I was on a bus to Vigo, fast train to Madrid and the next day on a flight home to my Australian dentist who received a big boost to his wealth. The idea of seeing a Portuguese dentist made no sense if anyone is wondering.

Which route next for me is an open question.
