Camino Portuguese April 2023
My wife and I are planning to walk the Camino Portuguese starting in Lisbon around the 18th of March 2025.
Please can anyone advise on the availability of accommodation on the Lisbon - Porto section during this period, particularly the first two weeks. Any names, addresses, contact details of any accommodation would be very much appreciated as we believe that not all will necessarily be open and that there are some 30 km distances to be covered on a number of days which we would rather reduce towards 20kms if possible. We have walked from Porto to Santiago previously so we are familiar with that section of the camino. We are looking online and in books but there is nothing like information directly from those whohave walked that way before.
Thankyou in advance

The people who write those guides have walked that way before, with the express purpose of providing the type of information you're looking for. For an overview of the accommodation options from Lisbon to Porto, I'd advise using those resources first, then start making a plan and if you have specific questions about certain places, accommodation gaps, choices between two options etc, ask those questions here, which is what this forum is great for. That way you maximize all resources.

Happy planning and bom caminho!

I’m walking in April from Lisbon to Fatima to Santiago. Here is my itinerary to Porto but I will split off at Santarem

I’m starting in April from Lisbon to Fátima to Santiago. Here is my itinerary as to date to Porto: Lisbon > Parque das Nacões > Vila Franca de Xira > Azambuja > Valada > Santarém (I spilt off here and walk to Fátima to Tomar) > Alvaiazere ( back on main path) > Ribeira de Alcamouque > Coimbra > Sernadelo > Agueda > Branca >São João da Madeira > Porto. There are many useful apps to help you plan your stages: Wise Pilgrim, Buen Camino, Gronze, Camino Ninja, My Camino bed, and this forum. I hope this helps you or a least gets you started.

I did the Lisbon to Santiago route in September 2024. Loved it. The Lisbon to Porto leg is very different from Porto to Santiago, and that's part of the beauty of it. I walked roughly 20kms a day until I got to Tomar and then felt I could do more kms a day. It's definitely doable but takes a bit more planning, and you might need to book ahead your accommodation - just daily. I pegged Villa Franca de Xiro (and it is a gorgeous town) as a good first stop but it is 33km from Lisbon which I didn't want to do in one day, so I walked about 22kms and caught a train back to Lisbon to stay the night and then caught a train the next day to the same point and continued on to Villa Franca de Xiro. From there, my stops were: Azambuja, Porta de Muge, Santarem, Azinhaja. I then wanted to stop in Atalaia but the hostel was full and there was literally no other accommodation so had to walk further to Asseiceira. From there the last leg to Tomar was about 12kms. I used guides from @Elle Bieling and podcast by @jungleboy which were hugely helpful, as were apps such as the Wise Pilgrim. It's all very easy to navigate. Hope you enjoy!

I second the Wise Pilgrim Planning Guide> I just used it the other day and have dodgied up my first draft of the stages I will do and there is a link on many of the towns/villages with a range of available accommodation including Albergues both private and public and links to other accommodation through booking.com . VERY helpful!! Good luck and buen camino, I'm doing it with friends in late August/September.
