We are planning to walk the Camino Portuguese this April or maybe this Fall, we have three weeks available where should we start? We plan on walking about 20 km a day, but no more than 25 km until we reach Santiago! Should we land in Lisbon or Porto?

Ola -
Perhaps you would consider to arrive in Lisboa - and then take a train up to Coimbra and start walking from there ? There are many options, and lovely sights to be seen.
Bom Caminho -

Most of the pilgrims i spoke to during my various pilgrimages said that Lisbonne-Porto is not interesting at all as many kms are walked on paved roads. Porto Santiago is quite a short walk.

Walk Lisbon to Porto first yourself, then give your comments please.
Many walked it among others myself and we LOVED it !

I will be starting in Porto, with 20km or so a day in ... About 13 days of walking i f I counted right. That allows me 2 days to get to the starting point, 2 to get back home, spend a day in Santiago, or, if I grow wings, walk from Santiago to Muxia.

In a week you will be able to get in Porto by walking from Coimbra which is a pleasant walk. from Porto to Santiago in 13 days is okay.
Did you made up your mind which route... Central route ? Coastal ? Combined central and coastal ?

Thank you! - Obrigado! Bedankt! Albertinho - Well said.

I marvel that 'most pilgrims' Eze spoke too found the Lisboa - Porto caminho "not interesting at all" and wonder if they perhaps walked with blindfolds? - or somehow managed not to visit Tomar, Santarem, Coimbra and all those amazing places inbetween as well .

At any rate - i'd second your comment to the fullest! C

I am still palnning on combining: start coastal, then in to Ponte de Lima, then back out to the coast even I have to take bus, train what have you to back track south-west to get back started again. But things may chnage kf I find good company on the central. Will see.

Yes Claudia. how can you post this kind of remarks when you never ever have walked that caminho.! ? But we know what it is like and that is the most important thing. !
Best regards from this side of the world.

Thanks everyone for the advice, bought my ticket this afternoon and I am leaving on the 15th of April 2016 walking from Coimbra, Portugal! May we meet in Santiago de Compostella, if not physically maybe at least in spirit!

Ola everyone, we've just arrived in Lisboa and will be walking the Portuguese Caminho. We're going to visit Fatima from here and then take a bus to Tomar with the plan to start walking from there. We have 22 days, allowing for starting the day after arriving in Tomar, calculated basing our timing roughly on brierley's guide. I'd really appreciate the advice of pilgrims who've experienced this Caminho. I've read the suggestions in this thread about walking from Coimbra to Santiago in 3 weeks which is making me wonder if we've allowed enough time.
Thank you for your advice and bom Caminho.
