Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 30 to April 2
Hi I'm looking to do my first Camino France starting from Lourdes around the 23rd September. I've got no time limit so I figure that it will take about a week to get to St Jean which hopefully will give me enough practice to manage the jaunt to Roncesvalles instead of having the big climb and descent on the first day.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Change in plans - could you move me from September 13 to September 10? Thanks.

Flyguy starting arriving in St Jean on Aug 31 staying at Gite Izaxulo then head out Sept 1st and hopefully Sept 1st at Orisson although have not had a reply yet from them yet.Walking alone

While I'm here I do have a question. I am going to be walking the Camino on my own, for the first time starting late September. I have only recently decided to commit to this and am very excited. I am currently backpacking around and have been on the road for about 2 and a half months so far. The Camino will be just one part of a 14month trip for me so the thing I am struggling with the most is my cheapest option for a place to leave my big backpack while I'm walking? I will need all my stuff again at the end of the Camino to continue my travels. I would really appreciate any advice on this!

sar_sar,

Welcome to the Forum!

Long term storage of luggage is offered in Santiago de Compostela by Ivar Rekve, the Forum administrator. See more info here.

Happy planning and Buen camino!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Bonjour Nonami,

What an awesome post! Please add me to your list. I am planning my inaugural visit to Camino Frances on October 1st, leaving from St. Jean Pied de Port.

Thank-you,
You are there! Have an excellent time.

I've put you on the list. Yes, the first day out of St Jean looks daunting.

Welcome to the forum. From what I have read it does take some time before you get a reply about accommodation at Orisson. Buen Camino.

Yes, welcome sar_sar. I put you down for the 23rd. mspath has given very wise advise about your backpack. If you are arriving in Spain on your way to St Jean, it appears to be cheaper to send internally in Spain to Santiago rather than wait until arrival at St Jean. Buen Camino.

Hope to meet many of you along the way!

Absolutely correct to be excited and normal to be mildly terrified. You will quickly find that the terror is not warranted. I've added you to the list. There are some Minnesotans ( I think that's the correct term) leaving around then. Buen Camino!

My name is Cyndi Knapp and I'll be starting on August 24th at SJPP...first time pilgrim!

Please add me to the list, nonami . Flying into Bayonne Aug 28 to take train to SJPDP Aug 29 and departing Aug 30 for Orrison or Valcarlos (like Flyboy, I too am waiting for confirmation from Orrison). I have 8 weeks to reach Finisterre and will be taking my time. I also will be walking alone...but you are never alone on the Camino. With that first step, every one of us becomes part of a huge family bonded by purpose and by what we are seeking, which to me at its basic is spiritual, because this is an inward journey as well as an outward one .
I recently had to put down my faithful companion (lab/collie cross)of 14 yrs and lost my sister shortly after. So I am really looking forward to this amazing, life-giving, life-embracing experience .
I'll keep my eyes on this thread and the excitement and anticipation it generates.
Buen Camino.

Hi Dottie,

I did email the hostel at Orisson, but haven't received a reply. If they have room I'll probably choose to stay there. If not, I guess I'll journey on

Added! You will have a magnificent time.

Hello Everyone... first post on the Camino Community . My Dad (Bill), Brother (Brad) , Husband (Will) and myself ( Helen) will start walking the CF on 10th September 2016. With my two sisters Kaz and Donna , and brother in law Peter joining us towards the end of September in Leon. I must say we have been a little concerned about how crowded it might be considering its a Holy Year... We were even wondering whether we should change and walk the Camino Portuguese instead....

Wish you all a wonderful journey and a Buen Camino, Peter.

A great book to listen to while training for the Camino or to relive the experience!
I did the camino march 2015, hoping to get back for late sept this year for the year of mercy

They took a very long time to get back to me, but they finally did and I will be staying there. Hope to see you on the trail. Buen Camino!

Hello jamesw3435. I have added you to the late September group. I put you down for Camino Frances. Let me know if this is incorrect.

Welocme to the forum Vaggers. I put you down (plus your other six family members) for CF. If you change your mind I can alter the details. Have a brilliant time which ever one you choose.

I originally thought that I was going to start in September, but now 22 August is my start date. Is there a thread for August starters, or do I still belong here, as the bulk of my Camino will be in September?

Fail to prepare? reduce your risk by buying this book full of practical info.

please add Marty and Susan Karpiel to the Camino list. We are nubies...arriving SJDpD on 20th and starting the camino on 21st.

I have consulted with my lawyers about the wording in the original post and they confirm that I must allow your name on the list on 22nd August despite my reservations about doing so. ........... Just joking!. Of course that is not a problem. I also searched for an August list and could not find one.
Buen Camino!

I am not the original starter of the thread which resides in Camino Frances area. I think it is about any pilgrim walking in those months regardless of the path and there are some already on the list from other routes.
So officially welcome to the forum. You are on the list (a starting point?). Buen Camino!

Thanks noami,
My plans are from Lisbon - Santiago, and I am jugling my schedule around the 20 km a day, since 30ish is too much. As soon as my flights are covered, I will confirm, which should be very, very soon!
Did the Frances in September 2014 from SJPdP all the way to Santiago, very rewarding!

Hi Monica, setting off on your own is a big undertaking, especially when you are coming from afar. But rest assured, you will not be alone on the Camino, unless you choose to be so. You will meet many solo peregrinas of all ages who feel totally safe on the Camino. In my opinion, the Camino is far safer than most cities or holiday destinations. However, like anywhere, you should take sensible precautions for your safety - not because the Camino is dangerous, but because that's just a smart thing to do no matter where you are.

If you were my daughter or my niece I would tell you, without hesitation, that you should not be frightened on the Camino. It is a wonderful and life-changing experience.

WOW Nuala thank you for your advice, thats is so good hear from someone with a good vibe
You are right, some places in Brazil, for example, could be really more danger then the camino Frances, and I never had a problem in my country, I always have a lot precautions and I very careful also.
Im just little a bit anxiously about this trip, and I will do it alone, sometimes I feel afraid, but must of time I feel it like a challenge, Im doing it for my self, and I very happy about, I can't wait
Nuala thank you very much for your time to come and replied me

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I have added you to the list for sometime in October, Monica. The forum has many topics that may help you. There is also a Sydney pilgrims group that meets regularly that may help.
Some good advice has already been given. The camino is a very safe place but always be sensible. Buen Camino.

Welcome to the forum KerryW. Before I add you to the list can you tell me when and where you are starting your Camino? The dates can be approximate if you are in early planning stage.

Hi Nonami, on your 2016 Sept. list I am down as starting Sept. 4th Catalan Camino, due to changes I am leaving on the 5th from Valencia walking to Zamora before joining the CF to catch up with friends and on or around the 24th Oct. heading to Porto to walk back to Santiago. So anyone leaving Valencia on or around the 5th keep an eye out. Staying at Hostal Paris in Valencia,
