    Gaiters or not ?

I was shopping rain gear the other day and looking at the Gaiters at REI and the salesperson/experienced hiker said I only need gaiters for snow hiking. I am curious if they are standard equipment for April rain along the Camino.

    Rain Gear Product opinions please

Has anyone had experience with this rain suit? I'm starting the CF in early April and I will need to bring rain gear, 295 grams seems fairly light. http://www.froggtoggs.com/the-frogg-toggsr-ultra-lite2tm-17341.html Thanks, mike

    Vaude Poncho Review

What goes around comes around... as they saying goes! I've spent a few weeks mulling over what my rainproof/coat/warmth solution should be when I walk again in September. I went through the same process in 2014... last year was a short camino and I borrowed an Altus... and this year I want...

A few questions...Water filter, sandals, rain prep

Hello all, My name is Thao from Las Vegas, NV USA and I'll be walking the Camino Frances from SJPP to Santiago beginning April 5-7. As the title suggests, I have some quick questions I would love to get advice about. 1. Did anyone bring a water filter such as a Sawyer filter? I figured I could...

    What´s this wet stuff?

As I was walking along towards the Camino Inglés this morning, the wet stuff that recently has only fallen on me from a shower head started coming out of the sky. And later today I had to pass a beach without going for a swim in it. It´s just not on. This is the first rain that has fallen...

LIVE from the Camino Bring your raincoat!

Walked from Zubiri to Pamplona yesterday ( Thursday 30th) - pouring rain until about 2pm. Cool evening in Pamplona. Long trousers and Patagonia duvet. Walked to Puenta la Reina today cool dull and cloudy. Now there, warm, humid with 80% chance of rain. Third Camino Frances, started this one in...

    Hiking umbrellas for sun protection

I'm doing the VDLP in June/July and I read somewhere around these forums that the umbrella helped to drop the temperature by several degrees for that person. Given I have to expect anything from 28-40C, that makes an umbrella sound like a very good idea. Lower temps make for less water use and...

    Ferrino Trekker Improvements

I purchased Ferrino Trekker rain gear knowing it would not be perfect for the Camino, but prepared to make modifications tailored to the needs of the Camino. I was considering the Altus, Trekker, Packa and the Sea to Summit Sil-Nylon poncho. Originally I was going to pick up an Altus when I...

    Rain Gear

Hi, I've been reading the posts on the best pack covering gear and the Ferrino Treker sounds great. Is it the aluminized and waterproof ripstop nylon one called the Poncho Trekker?

The Rain Gear Debate and Poncho Choice....

As our Camino nears, the assembly of our gear is getting more serious. We made the decision so long ago (18 months), we have been training with the gear we originally bought, but soon knowing that some would need relacing or upgrading. The packs were the main thing. We got a great 'deal'...

    Rain Poncho question.

Hello all. I'm planning to start out from Le Puy in mid September 2014 and take a relatively leisurely 5 or six weeks to get to SJPP. I've been researching the question of rain gear on this forum and am having no little difficulty in coming to a conclusion about which options would be best for...

Rain Gear: Poncho or "waterproof breathable" shell

Last year i faced constant rain/wind in the Galicia region for few days. I had my eVent breathable rain shell that performed well for isolated showers but failed during extended rain. So, i picked up an Atlus poncho that covered my whole body including my packs. While this poncho kept most of...

Is it worth bring waterproof gear in August?

Hello, I'm leaving at the end of month and it's only occurred to me that it MAY rain. I don't want to have to pay to buy a load of gear, not to wear it! But will I need it...? Thanks, Aaron.

Alternative Approach to Rainwear for Late June

I'm setting up my rain kit, and I'd like to know just how significant the rain and wind are in Galicia in late June along the CF. At first glance, this will seem like a question that has been "asked and answered" many times over. It might also be one of those questions that restarts the poncho...

    Raincoat-Poncho

I have always preferred using a rain jacket and trousers to a poncho. In Late August we set off from Roncesvalles in torrential rain. The rain ran down my back, between jacket and pack cover, it poured down my trouser legs into my boots and I ended up drenched. We bought a 'raincoat-poncho'...

    Re Umbrellas?

I'm tempted to take an umbrella. I've found them useful in the past when it is raining - especially for evenings/rest days. I also wondered - for this trip - if one might be useful on those bits where you have to walk in the sun and there is no shade? . . . but - even though mine only...
