Walking the Puy En Velay –

Agreed, although I would feel rushed if I did the 350kms in 14 days as it’s such beautiful scenery and villages - take your time! My km/day in May-June varied from 26 to 8 (fewer as time went on) depending on weather, where I’d found a bed, la fête de la transhumance in Aubrac, rest days and how...

Walking the Puy En Velay –

Figeac trainline to Toulouse was terrible in late June 2024 - service so bad I ended up going vua BlaBla Car which was great. Heading northwards from Figeac might be useable…

    Camino phone SIM

I am just back from doing half the Le Puy en Velay route (=GR65, =Via Podiensis) and I strongly suggest an online purchase of an (eg. Orange) e-SIM at 20 Euros per fortnight. If you go to an Orange shop they'll gladly sell you one of their SIM cards at 40Euros per fortnight.... from fellow Aussie.

    Sorry, try this...

    Sun Sleeves?

I'm loving the 'sun hoodie' I bought for this purpose, lightweight (292 grams), with thumb holes to cover hands and hood to cover head, ears back of neck - all UPF50+. There's several big brands, I went cheap & got Uniqlo (AUD$50). I wear it for all my training walks & love it! eg...

Lightweight Blankets for Walking the Camino

Think you must be taking about what they used to call a Space Blanket (arose from space age technology) or also 'emergency' blanket....ultra thin, relfective noisy plasticy wrap....?

Grand merci pour ces tuyaux, Pafayac!

Preparing from Tasmania (island state of Australia) to walk about a month of the VP at my slow pace (maybe average 15km/day) with just the essentials on my back (so currently obsessed with the weight of those essentials..!). Just retired so lots to reflect upon along the way....probably finish...

Short walk in France - planning

Which route are you saying is booking up already for May/June..!??????

    Shorter walk. Sleeping bag?

Thank you BlackRocker57! Would this answer be different if I was to leave le Puy mid-May? With the Aubrac region's altitude I'm not sure a silk sleeping sheet would suffice...? (I really appreciate input from your extensive experience of this route!)

Short walk in France - planning

Careful! I will also need to send a suitcase from Le Puy to the end of my VP (Figeac or Cahors still planning). I'm told laMalle transports up to 14kg only.
