Update on upcoming new entry rules - EES/ETIAS

Correct. Quote from the EU Commissioner’s speech: [The EES Entry/Exit System means] goodbye to passport stamping, hello to digital checks. She did not say much about the start of the ETIAS system which means paying a €7 fee, only that it is due to go live “in 2025”.

    Spain Entry at Immigration

Somewhat related, keep a watch on when ETIAS will be implemented for entry. ETIAS is a new “visa-like” requirement to enter EU (Schengen) countries from non-EU countries. Please note implementation has been delayed many times. Currently the website says it will start first half of 2025. As I...

Clarification of new entry rules in Oct 24.

We can soon celebrate our 5th forum anniversary of announcing the introduction of ETIAS, of fretting about it, of fearing or predicting the demise of tourism to Europe because of it, of calming nerves, and generally commenting on it. The first ETIAS thread was started on March 7, 2019. And some...

Clarification of new entry rules in Oct 24.

The entry / re-entry is Schengen, not Spain, or Portugal. You're planning to spend 70 days in Schengen out of the 90 available to you. You do not have a problem.

Clarification of new entry rules in Oct 24.

Hi, thanks for this summary, it helped clear a few things. Do you happen to know if the timelines are still looking like late 2024/2025 for the ETIAS/EES bit? I'm a South African but have a British passport and will travel on it for my camino. I'm planning to walk the Camino Frances from 23...

    One-Way airline ticket

Surely it's a visa waiver, similar to ESTA in the US. I googled it.. ETIAS, which stands for European Travel Information and Authorization System, is a new travel authorization system designed by the European Union to enhance security for visa-exempt travellers entering the Schengen Area...

Clarification of new entry rules in Oct 24.

There is occasionally at bit of a mix up between the EU’s future EES and the EU’s future ETIAS in this thread. In a nutshell: EES: Fingerprints and face scan. Free of charge. At the airport. For EU foreigners. Planned to start in the fall of 2024. Perhaps on 6 October. Perhaps in all EU...

New travel requirement - US (and other countries) to Europe, 2024

It appears this is now delayed to 2025. This article is for Canadians but I imagine will apply to some others. https://www.etias.ca/#:~:text=From%202025%2C%20Canadians%20will%20need,business%2C%20tourism%2C%20or%20transit. Moderator note: We will lock this now obsolete thread. More up to...

New travel requirement - US (and other countries) to Europe, 2024

That’s what was posted in July 2023 in this thread, and now that October has come and the scheduled Council meeting of the ministers for Justice and Home Affairs of the 27 EU countries has been held that is what they announced: EES: The new system will be built by eu-LISA, together with member...

    ETIAS likely2025! Official site

We recently closed a thread discussing this very issue, only because no more official information is available, and we were drifting into conjecture and speculation. I think we should close this thread too and wait for more developments. Understandably, many people are interested in this...

New travel requirement - US (and other countries) to Europe, 2024

For history buffs 😉: The first ETIAS thread was posted more than four years ago in March 2019; it had been prompted by a news article with the title Americans Will Need to Register to Visit Europe in 2021. The poster reported that UK will not require this ETIAS. Oh, those were the days ...
