Alternative Route Between Ontón and Castro Urdiales

Gronse offers an alternative and shorter route between Ontón and Castro Urdiales with the caution that it is walking on the N634 highway. We did it today with no problems and enjoyed lovely views and a shorter walk that gave us more time to enjoy the lovely town of Castro Uderales. We did cross...

I Found All The Plastic Bags In Spain!

After a peaceful night at the beautiful Blai Blai Hostel in Zarautz, we were all awakened at 5:00am by a young man repacking his huge pack, in the middle of the floor, with his bunk light on, wrapping every item in a freshly shook out plastic bag. With the room door open he made several trips...

I want to share! Videos and a podcast. I hope its interesting.

I liked them. I also like videos with narration an d better yet audio of what people are saying. Your video shots and editing was very nice. One last thing, most of the women I know prefer not to have their backsides featured. Put the camara in front, looking at you.

    Tides for crossing

There is a bar right next to the ferry dock that will sell you a ticket to cross in a small private boat for about 4 euros. I've done it twice with no hassles at all.

Best app to accurately record distances, elevation and descent per day

I use "Relive". It records your track, as well as a graphic elevation profile, inserts any photo's you take along the way at the appropriate spot, and allows you to create a daily video of your travels. I start it in the morning and it runs smoothly in the background without using a lot of...

Advice needed on travel from Tomar to Porto

I took the train from Tomar a couple of years ago because the temps were over 100. You need to go South a short way to Entroncamento and then up to Porto. You might consider a day in Tomar. It's beautiful there and the Castle is one of the best and most beautiful I've seen. Have fun.

Experience taking hiking poles as carry on

Yes, I was joking about the pole resale market, but the rest is for real. I'm not suggesting this as a way around airline security. Rather, this apparently satisfies their prohibition against sharp pointy things. Also, and possibly of greater benefit, grinding down the tip by necessity require...

Experience taking hiking poles as carry on

Yes they are. When I asked about mobility aids they offered to set up a ride or wheel chair ahead of time, but still referred to the pole tips as the problem. I think they are able to see the blunt tips now with the scanner and let them through. This is in U.S. airports though and the European...

Experience taking hiking poles as carry on

I called TSA to find out how I could get through with my hiking pole, necessary because of my new disability, and they advised that the problem was the sharp tip. So, I ground it off. Three flights now through major airports and not a word from TSA. I keep a rubber tip on it and it works great...

    But what about the handicapped?

I'm a veteran pilgrim, but have recently suffered an injury that has left me handicapped. I can walk, but with great difficulty. Still, I find that I'm unable to give up on my love of Caminos. I'm going to try for another one, maybe next year if I can get my legs to work well enough. My...

    The Way Re-Release May 16

The first time I saw Martin Sheen throw on his backpack in The Way, I knew it was only full of crumpled up newspapers. Nonetheless, it was the inspiration for my six Camino's. There will be a re-release of the film in 800 theaters for one night only on May16. In my area (Seattle) there were...

My stay at Sobrado dos Monxes is one of my favorites of my 6 Camino's. Make your choice and be at peace with it. Your Camino will be wonderful.

    Don't speak the language?

My best advice in any language. Learn how to introduce yourself, and be thankful for help.

    Did you frame your credential?

You could photocopy it or, like mine, I display two different credentials.

    So long old friend,

Don't be sad Nan, be glad. Think of the memories we both have that others don't, or won't. Share your stories, and live in the reverie of days gone by. It'll put a smile on your face for sure.
