Older Pilgrims - What gets harder? Is more 'Support' required?

I expect that reasons for changing/stopping depend very much on the individual, and they *may* share their decisions. From what I recall reading, onset/worsening of degenerative neuron diseases (Parkinsons, MS, MG, even essential tremor no longer controlled by medication) tends to stop...

Hoka Shoe Owners: Speedgoat 5 or the Bondi 8?

...EE.) The heel occasionally slips, so I always try before buying. I'm heavy and a supinator, too, so shoes don't tend to last the nominal 400 miles for me. Bring 2 pairs if you, like I, can't expect to buy off the shelf. It adds a kilo and a * lot* of space, but better that than bad shoes.

Camino Norte in June 2025 with 2 teenagers

Start with, are they excited? And what's their level of fitness ( and yours)? I'd suggest pre-booking rather than winging it, mostly because most teenagers's circadian rythmns tend to sleeping in late. When you know the answers to those questions, then plan. 😉 Buen Camino

Do municipal albergues in Asturias accept transferred bags?

...in either community that accept reservations also usually accept bag transfer. Depending on your day 1 experience, route, and time of year, it *is* possible to do your 1st day walk, and then get on WhatsApp before 2000 local time, make a reservation for day 2, and contact a transfer company...

You may want to see what's actually open along the routes in Feb first.. Check Gronze, but call to confirm.

    Camino with Baby

::::chuckle:::: I'm betting you all thanked all above that Sana wasn't teething. I've seen (and heard) both colic (~ 2 months) and teething play merry hob with a baby's temperament.

Two sellos on credencial from Sarria to Santiago

...Also, check the Office hours: https://oficinadelperegrino.com/ Arrive there at your leisure during hours, show the registration QR code, and away you go. One final note. No backpacks in the Cathedral (which is *not* where the Pilgrim's Office is). Buen Camino.

Hiking Poles needed Pontevedra to Santiago?

*Some* people benefit from poles in *some* circumstances. The OP stated that the OP benefits from using poles on ascents and descents, tho OP doesn't specify how steep a grade. Others have pointed out here that the OP's route doesn't seem to have a lot of elevation changes, but only the OP...

Ah, but there's a long dry spell on the way to Sobrado...and again, what's open in January?

Need to carry some extra weight and volume this time

I used TaxiCamino until either Ferreira or Boente on the Primitivo, and then was pretty seamlessly transferred to JacoTrans for the rest of the way. With WhatsApp and envelopes, quite easy...as long as you've made a reservation where you're shipping your bag to. In Spain, you're not likely...

Sunday meets Reyes Magos meets winter Camino

Search these boards and check Gronze...someone just walked the Primitivo last month, and if I remember correctly, said that Ferreira was a ghost town. I walked from Lugo to Ferreira on a Monday in late Sept 23, and only found two cafés open along the way on a Monday in high season. More...

    Growing number of winter pilgrims

...and adverse conditions. Take a look at rescue statistics for any of the popular trails/ parks in the US. And yes, people whose only knowledge of Spain is the south ( and who don't come from higher latitudes (?)) have *no* idea what winter can be like in the north, or how quickly it gets dark.

    Before yesterday I didn't know that . . .

I'm betting on the words in Revelation to the church at Laodecia ( spelling wrong). For me, if the Cathedral wanted to reduce traffic, they'd reintroduce the quizzing the early pilgrims (I think Bradypus has written on this) experienced, or simply deny Compostela to anyone not walking for...
