    It looks like Guy walked from Ourense, only the last 100 km (or so) of the Sanabres/Vdlp. Also, if anyone is planning this route in 2024, the Castro Dozon albergue is closed, seemingly permanently.

    We each take a microwave cup, a small bowl with a tight lid, a spork, and a pocket knife. The bowl is uselful for taking leftovers on the trail. Obviously, other folks might not find these to be needed, but we find them worth the few ounces.

    Twice in the last few years I have found trains from Santiago to Madrid sold out well in advance. It was not this way 10 years ago. I always buy mine in advance now. I use Rick Steves website to buy tickets because it is so easy, although they do charge a service fee.

    I would suggest you monitor the Camino Frances activity on the forum in May 2024. September and May have similar numbers leaving St. Jean each year. This would give you a very good idea what September will be like.
