    Bayonne - Ustaritz

Sanabres definively has some spectacular scenery (weather permitting and I am still grouchy about not seeing it all 😤). How about Lebanego or Vadiniense? Both have spectacular scenery (not that I've personaly seen either yet but all the photos look gorgeous). Or maybe Tolosana/Aragones over the...

LIVE from the Camino My Caminho da Geira e dos Arrieiros Nov 2024

Thank you, David, for your very diligent descriptions from both routes and from Salamanca, and wonderful photos! Have a pleasant ride tomorrow! I will be back with some questions when I have a bit more time, if you don't mind?

How important is a forum member title?

huh. I thought me being a member of the forum for 10+ years is what 'awarded' me a 'veteran' status earlier this year (I think). but I apparently reached the quota of posts to do so. I was a bit bumped learning that and since I also learned that I can change the title (which, I confess, never...

    Jakobweg/Gebennensis report Sept-Oct 2024

Found the post with ups and down: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/need-some-new-route-advice.87347/post-1264966. I could say that the first part of the norte Norte till Bilbao is pretty much up and down too, although perhaps not so much height is gained or lost. the Frances...

    Jakobweg/Gebennensis report Sept-Oct 2024

You're welcome. :) Yea, descends can really be something sometimes, and it usually only gets worse with erosion and use. That's why I always have a staff or poles, helps a lot. I have done backwards walking on occasion, too, it helps with relaxing the hard working muscles, whether up or down.

    Jakobweg/Gebennensis report Sept-Oct 2024

A very nice summary of both VJ and VG. I enjoyed both, though the scenery of the VJ (especially the german part) is hard to top. Except for the very steep descend into Schwyz (part of which can be avoided), I think those rolling stone descends on the VG were worse. Walking poles or a staff are...

Reverse Journey - from Santiago to Porto

I think people have been mentioning blue arrows pointting south as soon as you get to portugal, but maybe even in spain? But on the main interior route, not on the coast.

    services on the Geira file

Thank you so much, @Charrito! I will get to these when I will be behind a computer. If you see spelling mistakes, by all means, point them out, I don't see everything despite reading it several times. If it's easier, you can color them in the file and send me the file.

Question- The FEVE route along the the Camino Del Norte

Of course. I was limited in the number of days I could take the train due to Interrail and didn't get any beds in Bilbao or San Sebastian (€50+ for a bunk?? no thank you) so I opted for this crazy day. When I was closing on Irun, I phoned the albergue for vacancies and they said "Corre, corre!"...

An alternativo to avoid busy highway after Chantada

Perhaps there has been a territorial dispute and the camino had to be rerouted. Although N roads in spain usually have a small shoulder, they are not nice to walk on.

Question- The FEVE route along the the Camino Del Norte

I have not done a hop-on-hop-off route but I did ride the feve train in one day from Oviedo to Irun in 2022. It took me from about 6am till 21h45. I think I changed in Santander, San Sebastian and Bilbao (which is the end of the feve). A few notes: The feve train stations were not always at...

An alternativo to avoid busy highway after Chantada

That's interesting. Has camino been moved? In 2012 it run almost exactly on this alternative. See my wikiloc: https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/camino2012-149-chantada-rodeiro-21734719. Another possibility is that the route on mapy.cz is not the waymarked route. I find that mapy.cz...

Am I being too greedy or ambitious? Le Puy AND start in Geneva?

the whole via gebennensis is on mapy.cz which you can download and use in offline mode. the whole route is pretty well waymarked with the standard french GR red-and-white slashes and also with small blue stickers with a yellow scallop. if in doubt, follow the stickers.
