Travel woes - trapped in Dubai

Thank you for the generous offer. We are still hotel hopping in Madrid and pray that our gear will arrive. We are still trying to rest up from a very stressful event.

These are travel hacks I typically bring. What are some of your travel hacks? I'm targeting the beginning of Fall.

I forgot to ask you, which navigation app do you use? I am bringing a book with me and have downloaded apps like Renfe, Mapa de España, The Way, Buen Camino, etc. Thanks.

Complimentary Hiking Poles in Bilbao Airport ?

I agree with @IT56ny. Caminoteca is right in the main pilgrim area. We bought poles for my husband there and they had Altus ponchos in our sizes so we each bought one. We told the owner we were on our way to be hospitaleros on the Aragones and he gifted us a couple of name badge holders on...

    Rain jacket recommendations

I’ve used mine for four Caminos and part of the Via Francigena. It was PERFECT

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

I carried a ‘wind shirt’ and a poncho. Poncho was for the rain and wind shirt - what it says on the tin, means it cuts the wind and ventilates well in the way that a waterproof jacket does not. In short it is much more comfortable to wear over any combination of clothing assuming it is not...

    Where to buy Altus Poncho

The Altus poncho is not magic! I would not buy *any* gear, especially rain gear, that I had not previously tested at home in the rain. -Paul

    Snowfall in the Roncesvalles area

I would love to know what clothing you brought with you @Jomad and what it weighs... I'm still tweaking my gear and want to make sure I have enough to stay warm and dry, but not too much so I can keep my carried weight down.

    Altus products in forum store?

Hi. Just wanted to say thank you very much for the very prompt dispatch and delivery of my Altus Poncho and Official Camino Passport. I'll be walking the French Way mid April next year and I'm getting my kit together and planning my Camino. I find this forum an invaluable source of experienced...

Purchasing Altus rain poncho in Santiago de Compostela

There’s a store called La Tienda in Verdun, Québec. This is in Montreal, ie on the Island, on rue Wellington. I got my Altus poncho from them. They have a website, check them out online or head east on the Queensway!

    The Packa vs Altus Poncho

The last thread about the Packa vs a poncho was from 2016, and I think things have changed since then. I was going to bring a rain jacket and rain pants (no pack cover because I use a pack liner), but I've found on my training walks in the rain that I don't like having my backpack straps get...

Planning First Camino, February: Advice, safety, comfort

I just finished a winter Camino and my Altus Poncho was really a valuable addition to my pack. It kept my pack contents much drier than my old raincoat and pack cover. It has sleeves like a coat and you can wear a coat, hat,, etc.. underneath. I would recommend some kind of hat with a bill to...

Being prepared for the rain 🌧️

I used an Altus poncho (it’s really a slicker, not a poncho) when I finished the Francés from Leon last week. I can’t praise it strongly enough. It rained almost every day and my pack was never wet. You can open the front and take your arms out of the sleeves for temperature control if the sun...

    Altus Poncho/Rain Coat

Just got an Altus poncho in today from Ivar in size M/L. It weighs 322g on my kitchen scale. This is reasonably close to the weights listed on Camino Comfort here, which are: S (small), weight 316g M-L (medium), weight 335g XL-XXL (large), weight 382g I was curious as to whether I'd save...

Booked my flight, does this mean it's really happening?! Frances route from SJPP - Late Oct.-Dec (Solo walker from Missouri, USA)

Traditionally it rains a lot the closer you get to Santiago so down might not be the best choice for that. My husband spend the month of November in Santiago a few years ago and it rained almost every day ( a lot). We have upgraded to Altus ponchos for our December-January Camino this year.

Hiking stick instead of walking poles

Lots of people use either bought or found hiking sticks. I don't remember if the pilgrim store in SJPdP carries them, but you can write to them and ask. https://www.boutique-du-pelerin.com/en/#/ I just looked on their site and they list both hiking sticks and trekking poles. While you are...
