Wheel chair pilgrim completes the Camino Frances

""""In fact, and IMHO, I think the biggest obstacle is usually the one between each of our ears!""" AND that is the very thing yelling at me to "cancel" my plans to start in a few weeks. I have all sorts of reasons not to go : too much going on at work ; I have not had time to prepare ;had to...

Wheel chair pilgrim completes the Camino Frances

...serious medications, including Type I diabetics who coordinate with the local police, albergues, hostals, hotels or churches to store their insulin overnight. It all works out. In fact, rule #1 for the Camino is "the Camino provides..." Really, it does! Also, there are young people (8 years...

    September is coming fast

...Eat low glycaemic breakfast, with complax carbs, sip normal non diet soft drink diluted with water. Too much sugar at once provokes an insulin spike which basically lowers your blood sugar again, which is why you get the low after the coke high. I know lots of triathletes and cyclists who...

    Treatment for clothing

...growth hormone is not active in humans. If this is true, even if it was absorbed by humans, it would not be expected to affect health. Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) IGF-1 is naturally present in both cattle and humans. It plays an important role in milk production, bone growth, and...

Proper disposal of used diabetes supplies

Buenos dios, fellow pilgrims! I am an insulin-dependent diabetic and must carry with me my insulin, needles and test strips. For those of you who have walked the camino with this condition, can you share how you disposed of used needles, test strips, etc.? At home I have a sharps box and can...

From Missouri to St. Jean Pied de Port in September 2014

It's wonderful that you and your sons are all going together. I'd be curious to know, if it isn't too personal, what drove you, and them, to this decision. Good tip on walking in the heat with packs on. It's already getting quite warm, so our planned trek to Bolivar should be a good test. Call...

Seeking advice: walk alone whole route or with sister for only 10 days

Remy, that is so inspirational. I am a little worried about the hills, especially Day 1 from SJPP. You encourage me. I, too, will pause and take sips of water and wave to others as they bypass me. I won't be concerned about that. I love that you finished your Camino (Yay! Congratulations!)...

Seeking advice: walk alone whole route or with sister for only 10 days

...Mary, It took me 32 days to complete my Camino. I had to taxi from Sansol to Burgos. I'm also a type 2 diabetic and I miscalculated how many insulin pens I would need to last me till I reached Burgos. From Pamplona , I mailed some of my Insulin, my sleeping bag & my sandals to lighten my...

T2 diabetes - Anyone walked with this?

...people and food, I came to despair of the bocadillo - what a culinary disaster !! I continued to take tablets throughout. I didn't need insulin injections. Unless you are quite high on blood sugar levels, you shouldn't have many problems with managing your T2 diabetes with some simple diet...

T2 diabetes - Anyone walked with this?

I have walked before and wish to return. But I have since been diagnosed with T2 which I control well with diet and no meds or insulin yet. But I remember the very carby (but lovely) meals I had at the time. So I now wonder whether you – as a type 2 – have been able to 'walk off' the usual...

A little advice needed please.Albergues and medication?

Hiya, i read about this a while ago, the frio packs and thats what iv ordered from amazon, just wondering about the weight of them as i can imagine they will be quite heavy when the waters added to the crystals but, if its the best thing out there then it'll have to do, will just have to cut...

A little advice needed please.Albergues and medication?

Dear Angie, Don't go looking for hotels during your first week. If you stay in the same places as other pilgrims you will meet them and find community and support. That will not happen if you stay in hotels. And, as you have already found out, hotels are only in the larger towns which are...

...chemo-camino, meaning I have to carry my constant supply of meds with me.
