    Combining meds in one container

Small plastic bags are sometimes sold as “bead bags.” Lots of sizes available on the internet. When I took multiple meds, I would package them up in daily doses. Counting the pills was a bit of a pain, but it was a lot easier in an albergue to open one little bag and get my daily pills. Opening...

    Saint Bernard Pass

We crossed the GSB pass this month, leaving Martigny on August 7, and were very glad we had our poles. The first stretch out of Martigny is not steep but crosses boulder fields where the footing is very tricky. We really needed the stability our poles provided. The climbing from there to the...

    Saint Bernard Pass

It can snow at the GSB pass any time of the year. These photos were taken on August 20, 2020.

Is a pack liner a good idea or nah?

I wouldn’t hike without a liner. Mine, made by Osprey, keeps everything dry no matter what and even doubles as a bag to put the pack in when putting it in hold luggage on an airplane.

    Drink water to keep hydrated

We’ve tried bladders but discovered at the end of each day we had drunk significantly less than we thought. Rather than risk dehydration we’ve gone back to bottles. We use vapor bottles, which weigh almost nothing (empty, that is).

Ticks Carrying Ebola type disease in Spain!?

If you are going where borne encephalitis (TBE) is an issue, and, at least if you are American, be aware: -You will probably need to find a “travel doctor” as the vaccine is not widely available, -You will need to plan well in advance as it is a three shot regimen with shots a month apart...

LIVE from the Camino Suspension bridge over the Orbe closed

Thanks, Paul-CH; the app looks like a great resource.

LIVE from the Camino Suspension bridge over the Orbe closed

Got it! What a fantastic resource! One more question: among the photos you posted were one of the sign and one showing the closed bridge. Can these be pulled from the map? Thanks again for the info on this resource; I'm really glad to have it before we do the Swiss portion of the VF this fall...

LIVE from the Camino Suspension bridge over the Orbe closed

Thank you, Irrie, for the warning, we will be walking there next fall. Hopefully the bridge will be open. Paul-CH, thank you for the suggestion of the SwitzerlandMobility Map, a resource I was not aware of. However, when I look at it I do not see anything suggesting the bridge is closed. Has it...

Problems with Iberia and American Airlines (standby seats and lost luggage)

Exactly. There are a number of “repositioning” cruises out of Barcelona, and regular sailings by Cunard out of Southampton and Hamburg. As I said, this may not work for everyone, but we haven’t had to deal with the issues discussed in this thread for years.

Problems with Iberia and American Airlines (standby seats and lost luggage)

It might not work for everyone, but we gave up on airlines years ago. We cross by ship. 7 pleasant days at sea sure beats flying. Any we've never had any lost luggage!

    Accommodations in Jougne

It seems they are closed until May 25. I will try again when they open. Thanks for the advice. What email address did you use to contact them? All I could find was a phone number. Thanks again.

Need to buy day pack in Burgos

. . . and you got what could be a good alternative suggestion from a well meaning veteran member of the forum as well. Bonus!

    Via Francigena official site down?

Me too, but very slow. App is back up, too. This also happened last year while we were on the VF. The app lets you download the maps. Fortunately, we had downloaded them and could still use the app for navigation. A good reminder to remember to download the maps n advance.

    Via Francigena official site down?

    The app is down, too.

    Via Francigena official site down?

Can't get into the official Via Francigena site. I've used it for years, but today all I get when I try to enter it is 'File not found". For example, if I enter https://www.viefrancigene.org/en/resource/tour/la-francigena-svizzera/ I just get "File not found" on both my desktop and my iPhone...

    Accommodations in Jougne

Thanks! I contacted La Post but they were not making reservations that far out.

    Accommodations in Jougne

Thanks so much! It looks like they have no availability for the date I will be there, September 27. I'm wondering if perhaps they do not book so far in advance. Thanks for your help, Karl
