    October against Pilgrims?

Hi, dear pilgrims! I decided not to overthink and just sending this request to the most welcoming and warm community. I am gonna have my first Camino, starting from Porto on Sep 30th, going Coastal - Central (half&half). So, reading all threads, I feel like a chicken 🐣 a bit, as still have...

    Napoleon Route in October

I am planning to leave SJPdP between October 10 to 15 this fall. I realize that weather is unpredictable, but what is the likelihood that the Napoleon Route and Refuge Orisson will be open. I much prefer climbing the Pyrenees than taking the Valcarlos route.

Advice on clothing packing list in October (Camino Frances)

If the raincoat is light and could double as a windbreaker I would keep it along with the fleece and ditch the puffer, or else ditch the fleece. I love my merino long sleeves when I walked in late September-October even though we had a lot of hot days. Love my merino Tees too.

Pilgrimage Plan for Beginners: Questions about Risk Management Along the Way

Hello, Vince☺️ I’m so happy to hear from someone with so much camino experience. Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly. I can now vividly imagine what my days might look like. I'm relieved to hear that the weather is pleasant during that time. I'll be praying that it doesn’t rain...

    September weather

Hi Tony, welcome to this forum. It ‘can be’ very hot in September in Andalucía and Extremadura regións. Not every year is the same and I wish you well. As you progress north along the Vdlp., and into later October you will more than likely experience some chilly nights and mornings too...

Lucca to Rome on Via Francigina

Yes, as @jungleboy said, I walked the Via Francigena in the fall, starting on Sept. 28th, 2022, and had mostly perfect weather. We stayed in private lodging the majority of the time, which does hinder connecting with other pilgrims, especially when not speaking Italian. We did connect with a...

San Salvador and Primitivo in September/October

I was originally wanting to walk the Frances in September/October, but became concerned about the large number of pilgrims on the Frances. So, I started looking at the San Salvador from Leon, and then the Primitivo to Santiago. But it sounds like the San Salvador can be very cold in...

Weather in October C. del Norte and C. francés

October weather C. del Norte and C. francés I had planned to do the Camino del Norte at the beginning of last June (2022). For various reasons I had to postpone my departure until early September. At that point a family problem forced me to put off my departure until later in the month, when...

    changing paths

I am now over 80 years, and walked the Portuguese last October, though 20 days of rain rain rain. I walked from Porto up the coast to Caminha, then, because of gale winds, high tides and BIG waves, chose to go inland to Tui, and up from there. There are stop-off places all along the way. I have...

Camino from Le Puy en Velay to Saint Jean Pied de Port in November

Yes and no -- and that part of the route would seem to be in October. And the October 2024 weather is intrinsically unpredictable ; probably not too bad though -- that is still the South of France. Getting into November towards Gascogne and then towards the Pyrenees, the weather might well get...

    A first timer

I walked it when I was about 64. There are alot of ups and downs and it is very beautiful. When I walked there were lots of young and wonderful people walking. There was one other couple that I saw often that were in their 70's but for the most part it was younger people. But just like the...

To take a quilt or not

2014 & 2015 (spring Camino's), zero rain, never got out poncho once. 2016 (spring Camino) heavy snow first couple of days, used poncho and then one other day about a week later. 2017 (spring Camino in Portugal), zero rain and unseasonably hot. 2018 (Primitivo in late September) zero rain and...

    Weather in April

In April, plan for it all. As @Kiwi-family said, it was all over the map this year. I started in Oloron on April 1st and it was balmy. Over Somport, pleasant and sunny to Jaca. Storms before Puente la Reina. Sunny, then hot. Freezing overnight to Burgos. Cool to Leon. Overcast to Ponferrada...

    The Taking of Gloves Paradox

Hi there, we did the camino Frances in September/October and we had temperatures in October drop to -4 degrees but all along the way I worn bicycle gloves, they left my fingers open to grip hiking poles but covered enough of my hands to keep me warm. They didn't seem to get really wet in rain...

    Camino in late October/early November?

Here's a website where you can compare weather across various caminos. There's an "example" section at the bottom, you can just open up a bunch of tabs and compare what the weather's like for the caminos you're considering for October or November.

LIVE from the Camino They are recommending the Valcarlos route tomorrow, how foolish would it be to go Napoleon?

Hola - in 2017 I met a young Italian woman pilgrim who had a similar event. She spent two days in hospital (first time in her life). It was about 5 days after the event when I met her and she still had significant bruising. So yes I totally agree - if the SJPP PO says/recommends the Valcarlos...
