David, Not really related to the previous issues however it is health related. I'll be walking in April of 2016 and use injectable insulin for diabetes Type 2. My insulin, Lantus lasts for about 9 days unfrigerated.. So my question is do I send insulin on along the camino to health...

Overdid, vomiting, took a rest day but still determined

Kate, I walked with insulin pump and CGM. Your diabetes gives you a whole heap of complications over other peregrinas. Test your blood glucose more often while you are unwell and get that under control before you move on. As others have suggested, get some local medical help and make sure you...

40km+ a day burgos to leon diet?

...overnight. Imho, you're overindulging in junk calories and in simple terms every time you eat a lot of high sugar food, your body pumps insulin into your bloodstream to metabolise the sugars into glycogen which can be stored as an energy source in your muscles but that causes a drop in sugar...

    Insulin

Great question! I would suggest getting a copy of your prescription to take with you and an ID. Should not be a problem, most pharmacies should assist you. Try searching your question on google, I once saw a journal of a diabetic man who did the entire camino but can not remember where.

...will be paying the more expensive prices. Interesting that when converted to Canadian dollars the prices are about the same as I pay at home. But the convience of being able to purchase insulin in Spain without a prescription is priceless! Again thank you for all your detective work...

    Insulin

You are a real detective! I wonder if I paid the full price for the Insulin and not an EU subsidized price if I would still require a Spanish Doctor's prescription. I am from Canada so getting a note from an EU Doctor is not an option. Here in Canada insulin can be purchased without a...

    Insulin

...is a burocratic issue. You can get the european health card and with your doctor report, a Spanish one would give you the prescription without any problem. I will investigate this option deeper and will give you a more accurate option to avoid you to carry your insuline from your country. Cheers!

Hi Marilyn, While I don't know the answer to your question, I suggest you search for posts with the keyword "insulin" and by the late member "methodist.pilgrim.98". He shared a lot of info about doing Caminos while using insulin and may have answered your question in a post. There may be some...

Back Pack weight...how much should a person carry?

I w I have very very dry skin. Most soaps dry me out so bad that it triggers severe skin chafing on my face and legs which get very sore and uncomfortable. SO unless there is something out there that will work as well as a cleansing cream then I'm pretty much stuck. Hair is not so bad but...

...glycerine soap or Dr Bronners bar soaps. As far as your meds, that is an issue we are working on now witih our daughter, she is a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic. If her insulin pump works, she needs very few supplies, but if it fail she needs a lot of supplies. When we travel we always...

    Advancing Gerontological Episodes

...I hate to think what would happen if Compostelas were ever subject to bans for those taking performance enhancing drugs. Those of us suffering from A.G.E. would be in trouble - betta blockers, pain killers, cortisone injections, protein pump inhibitors, insulin, caffeine - just for starters.
