Albergues & Bars closing in October.

Hey everyone 😀 Camino Frances here I come in October, God willing. I’ll start in SJPdP Oct 2 and go as far as Astorga Oct 25, then bus to Santiago before returning home. I’ve read here that albergues and bars start closing in October. Will I need to walk further on some stages? How would you...

LIVE from the Camino Trilho das Areias - Lisbon to Nazaré

AJ, would you mind telling us where you have stayed along this route? I’m toying with the idea of a three day walk from Praia das Maças to wherever in early October, weather permitting.

VDLP - Too late in the year ?

I have walked the Via de la Plata in October and also in January/February. For the second one I did encounter some snow on several days. Mostly the weather was pleasantly cool. While summer on the VdlP is often dangerously hot I don't find winter too challenging.

Walking in October - does it differ much from May / June?

Dreaming - we must have walked the same dates!!!!! I, too, experienced 2 weeks of very, very hot weather and 2 solid weeks of rain. I started in SJPDP on 9/21/23 and arrived SDC on 10/30/23

Camino Vasco through the hills and mountains, called Saiatz trail.

Thanks a lot for the alternative route tip! I have another question: I'm considering walking the Vasco Interior end of october/beginning november. I guess I should expect to walk it entirely alone? And do you think the weather will be ok?

Walking in October - does it differ much from May / June?

My husband found that the weather changed quite a lot from the first to the last part of October in 2021 He went from shirts and t-shirt to needing to buy a jacket and wearing all his clothes later in the month.

Walking in October - does it differ much from May / June?

I walked from 16th October for 7 days and rained every day. It wasn't cold and as soon as i bought a poncho everything was great I even walked in sandals was quite refreshing actually. I kept reminding my self that the pilgrims before us most probably didn't have much in the way of waterproof...

2nd camino in October 2024 - del Norte or Frances? General questions

Hello, from my experience, October is not necessarily rainy on the Norte - I was very lucky with the weather two years ago, but starting on October 7th from Bilbao, I had just a few rainy days in the four weeks of walking, and most of them were near the end in Galicia, where it rains pretty much...

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

Yes! But then it's called hitch-hiking :D I just wanted to add that the last bus from Pamplona to SJPP leaves on October 11, weather permitting. Borda and Orisson close their doors on October 17. Seize the day, pilgrims! The end is near!

Camino from Le Puy en Velay to Saint Jean Pied de Port in November

I haven't done the Le Puy, but CaminoWeather recommends October as one of the better times of year, at least weather-wise. https://caminoweather.com/le_puy/best_time_of_year Here's what they have for starting on Oct 2nd...

First Camino Frances - Starting 2nd week Oct. Fall advice please!

@JaneFall . I haven't walked in October so can't really comment on the weather / clothing. But have walked at the early part of the season. I'd suggest one or the other. Fleece or puffy. I wear merino base layer, sleeveless puffy and rain jacket. Though rarely need all three when actualy...

Best Time of Year to Walk Madrid Camino

And I walked it late June. It was an unusual year according to locals because it had rained a lot in May so I was gifted with a plethora of wild flowers when the landscape is usually a bit barren (campos). Weather was pleasant but I can imagine that it is usually hot. My guess is that May or...

Walking in October - does it differ much from May / June?

I remember that rain, too well. Also, days are shorter. Sun generally doesn’t come up until close to 9am. We used headlamps on most Oct mornings.

Hello, I'll be walking Frances in October starting from SJPdP. It's my first time walking. My backpack is now 7.5kg all included but I'm looking to reduce weight. Packing list and shoes for October/November Camino Frances

Here is the AEMET report for historical (climate) conditions at Pamplona airport in October. I note that the average minimum for October is 8.9 deg C, so clearly half of the nights will have a lower minimum than that. The average maximum is 19.3 deg C, although that drops to 13 deg C in November.

Starting 2nd week of October Leon-Santiago - tips?

I walked the Frances roughly the same time frame fall 2023 and arrived in Leon on Oct 16. Albergues generally had space if you arrived early, but for peace of mind I usually booked a day ahead, particularly in less populated stretches. The weather the first half of October was hot and dry and...

    Walking in late October/early November

It’s a good time to walk. Not too many pilgrims. Many places are still open. In my experience no guide will be 100% accurate so you have to contact the albergues directly to find out if they are still open. Don’t assume any place is open based on what you read. As you progress in your walk more...
